I put a new pinion seal in a 8 3/4 SUREGRIP and the nut I took off was Crimped. So I want to put on a new one. Should it be the same or a non Crimped nut. Seems the parts stores only carry the non. I would like everyone's opinon.
Thank you billy

dr diff has them. Are you talking the single use nuts? When you remove they sort of strip. They're egged shaped.

Yes sir that's what came off of it. That's wake came with the new ring and pinion . When I put it in 2 years ago.what do I use?

I always reused the old nut......Your next problem is torquing that puppy if you have a crush sleeve....

Hopefully, you decided to eliminate the sleeve if you rebuilt it...

It didn't have a crush sleeve.

Did you use the sleeve eliminator kit?

Let me rephrase this is yours a 489 case?

No sleeve not a 489 case

The old nut from the old pinion had a washer. Is that what I should put back on it. Just worried about the nit backing off

I only think in big pinions lol....So that is correct!

Every nut I have pulled off of pumpkins and dana's had a washer and a nut of some type and I just reused them.....

The nut looks a little stripped I don't trust it

Here is what I am asking the first nut I took off wasn't Crimped the second was . Which is better ?

OK that's what the last one looked like. One of the guys replying said something about a single use nut . Is that pic that i looked at one if those?

See the 2 dimples on the side of nut? that's how they egg shape the nut it acts like to lock the nut.
Correct....It doesn't matter which one is better as long as the nut is good and torqued properly.....Glad your not trying to find the rare dana 60 locking nut this convo would go on forever....

That looks like a 3-hit (3 sides) to me. The nut is distorted to cause an interference fit. Here's another.....
