I just realized that my stock 440 heads were previously torqued to the block using head bolts without washers. Is this normal, or should washers have been used? I am looking at buying a new set of ARP head bolts and the ARP kits that I've seen so far, include washers. Curious :)

No washers on the OE bolts. Make sure you measure their length before going ARP.

No washers... Here are the correct measurements.

I'm running washers on my motor for not good reason other than they came with the cylinder head studs. Stock motors don't have washers. I "think" they're important to use when you have aluminum heads (so you don't gouge the heck out of them with hardened steel head bolts). For iron heads...."maybe" a little more even torque, but Ma Mopar's engineers didn't think they were needed.
