70 Coronet Wagon Driver

Boy, everything thing you do from this viewpoint looks great. Good to see someone doing great work, keep it up and enjoy when you finally get it on the road! How few '70 wagons are left? Way to save it!

The work you are doing on the wagon shows a ton of talent .
I can't believe some of the work done on this site .
Can't wait to see the wagon going .

Sorry I haven't posted any updates in a while. My engine is together and I am just waiting to get it dyno'd for tuning and break in before bringing home. My brother has been really busy at the engine shop due to it being race season so it's been sitting for a while now.

In the meantime, I've basically finished putting the interior back in with the exception of the headliner. I haven't figured out exactly how I'm going to tackle that since the original was a formed fiber board that isn't reproduced to my knowledge. Thinking now of converting it to fabric utilizing the bows I have from donor two door car.

I also got the belt line seal issue resolved for the tailgate glass. Took me a while to find a seal I could mount that would cover the large gap between sheet metal and glass. Sound system is installed and sounds good enough for now. Needs more bass, but I'm putting off the purchase of a powered subwoofer for a while.

So once I can get engine home I should be able to to get it installed with tranny and exhaust fairly quickly, I hope. I wanted it to be on the road by now, but that's how it goes I guess. I'll post more pics of finished interior when I get a chance.

Thanks tallhair for the interest.

Very welcome. I've always wanted a longroof. One-day maybe :)

When you get time some updated pictures would be appreciated

Now that I'm back from my Cancun family vacation, here's some pictures of the wagon in its current state.

Tailgate is rebuilt and hung. Glass motor works from both key switch on gate as well as dash switch.

Here's a few pics with both seats installed.

I also had to clean and repair/paint the headrests. Can't really fix the "chrome" finish on plastic trim pieces, but this should be sufficient for my driver for now. Before and after pics of one of them.

I'll keep tinkering with the small items until the engine is ready to come home.

All the work looks great, so what is the plan in regards to painting it??

Thanks slodart. When I bought it my plan was to fully restore, but two weeks later I bought a 70 Coronet that my brother and I are in the process of restoring. This put the wagon on back burner for a year or so.

So this spring I decided I wanted a driver to keep me entertained and I decided to rebuild the wagon far enough to make it safe. I don't plan on doing anything to the outside of it anytime soon. Maybe some day.

My brother helped me get the engine dyno'd and tuned this weekend. I'm very happy with the results and excited to get it painted and home for install.

Smart man! Worth the time and cost to eliminate any problems or leaks prior to putting into your car....

Looking good!

you can get that chrome from classic ind. for about $50 and it will make the headrest look brand new. Probably can get ir somewhere else for $20 if you know what to ask for, it has 3M adhesive backing.

I'm making some progress. Here's pics of the engine painted and put in the car.

Hopefully I'll have engine buttoned up in a week or so and move onto getting exhaust installed.

Could use some help on a few small items. I need the hangers for the tail end of the exhaust. I guess they don't reproduce these for my wagon. Could fabricate my own if I knew what they looked like. If anyone has pictures, please post.

I also need one rod end clip for the tranny linkage. Looked at several sites for these and couldn't find them. If anyone has one to sell, I'd be interested.

that is looking awesome nice work let us know how it runs

So the engine and tranny hook up is about 95% complete. All that's left is modifying the throttle cable linkage that mounts to intake due to the dual plane intake, connecting fuel line and filter from pump to carb and figuring out if I have what I need for electronic ignition.

Everything worked out for clearance between air cleaner and hood with the work my brother did machining the intake and the custom work done to the top pan of the air cleaner.

I still need to get exhaust installed, find a driveshaft and yoke, and install master cylinder for brakes. Getting closer.....

Well I got the exhaust installed, bought a new driveshaft and finished the brakes. Got the old girl running finally. I took her on a test drive to the local gas station tonight with no issues. I'm very happy to have the wagon on the road after all this time and I owe my big brother so much for the countless hours of help.

Now it's time to switch gears and help him get his Super Bee finished. He's about ready to install his drivetrain which would put his resto nearly complete.
