Having a bunch of work done

Kudos Rebel for posting the dollar amount. It takes big balls to do that and stand up like a man to all of us with our jaws still dropped.:mob:

Figured it was gonna happen, LOL! I'm not rich by any means and my name isn't on the water tower either, LOL! After all of this I'm done with spending for a LONG time. You guys are alright!

I'm also just a workin slob.ALL my spare time & money go in the car. This time around I had to rely on a friend to getin it done. Not sure how many years I can climb in & out with the cage in the car. I can't afford a dedicated track car so my street heap has to do double duty!

roger does your car have a solid lifter cam in it?if so that might be valve train noise, need a adjustment maybe.

As with anything else in life, get a second or third quote before you jump in head first. The price seems high considering what is being done and doesn't seem like anything a local shop couldn't handle.

That's the unfortunate thing. The last owner had no idea what was done to the engine other than saying the guy he bought it off had it rebuilt. Based on the Edlebrock 750 cfm Performance Carb & Performer 383 Intake Manifold I'm guessing it has the Performance-Plus Cam.

I totally agree but in this case I'm ok with just getting this done as it comes down to piece of mind by a shop I'm comfortable with. Moving forward will be a different story.

Good to see you're taking good care of your car and just want it done the first time right.

Even though some things may sound simple to some, I wouldn't put it past some regular shops to eff that up too.

I had a shop hold my wife's Hyundai hostage for a week when they did a timing belt (something I could have done, but had zero interest in doing), they put the wrong pwr steering fluid in it when done which contaminated the filter in the resovoir causing it to cavitate, causing the steering to be rock hard. I. Had to google the solution myself (new resovoir) and tell them, only after they tried and tried to bleed the system and changed the pump to no avail.

Bottom line on this one if I spent more in the actual dealer labour from Hyundai rather than joes corner shop I would have had my car a week earlier, avoided a lot of aggravation, and probably only paid a $100-150 more.....

The last print shop I worked at before the company went Chpt. 11 had a saying. We do it right cuz we do it twice, LOL.

By laying down the $ now I can put it all behind me and focus on the stuff I can do from here on out.

Maybe. I can tell you some dealer nightmare stories myself. In fact, I don't do dealers anymore for my cars unless it is a recall, or warranty. The main function of a dealer is to sell you a car.

Fortunately I have found a very honest local chain Brake Shop that is managed by a (Chevy street rods) fellow motorhead and car collector. He can't fix everything, but for items that I can't handle myself he has done an excellent job.

You do bring up a good point that sometimes having it done has the possibility of a disaster, but The Rebel's shop looks like they are a quality establishment.

In the future, if you are going to have anyone else work on your car, you need to take it to Bill Atwood at....

Auto Service of Old Saybrook 800-388-6838

Old Saybrook, CT

These people only work on old cars, and in particular, Mopars are their specialty. I brought my Road Runner in to him just a couple weeks ago for some carb tuning. VERY knowledgeable guy & VERY reasonably priced.

It's a shame that you hadn't asked for a repair shop in CT before you went to that high end place. If you have any questions about your car, do yourself a favor and just ask here before you leap. There are plenty of knowledgeable people on here. Just a bit of advice. :D

Good advice. My Shop is not strictly Mopar, and works on modern stuff. But, he was a Chrysler tech for 15 years, and is track support for Vipers and Mazda. Viper specialist. I'd trust him to put a blower on the new Challenger etc. Lots of competent and reasonably priced work done on the 69.

San Jose, Ca. Valaya Racing. Ted.

I told him about Bill,he is the man but a bit of a drive for the OP,but worth every cent.I have the honor of racing with bill and Ralph when I can!

Thanks Guys! Next time I'm up that way will have to stop by to check it out. I'm over towards the CT/NY border but just checked the distance, which would take me about 45 mins on a good day in CT traffic.

1/2 hour of work can take and hour or so with all the celebrities flowing through there!.............LOL

Don't be surprised when the kickdown adjustments don't work. I just went through this. Kickdown rods are designed to work for a specific engine type, body type, transmission type, and intake/carb type. You change any of those, such as adding an aftermarket intake and carb, and it's going to throw the geometry off and may cause the rod to butt up against the firewall and not work.

Id echo the comments for Auto Service as they did the build of my 493 stroker. Nice thing is they can go over the car and make recommendations as to what needs to be done and quote reasonable repair costs. Being MOPAR people they know these cars well which cant be said for a lot of shops. Im with you as far as having someone do more technical work on the car but some of the basics can be done yourself and save $$$ (oil, plugs, etc.)

Man i hate to break it to you but you can take this to the bank....

You are never DONE with the repairs on these cars. Even though you are taking a big hit now to address a bunch of issues rest assured there will be more if you plan to drive it regularly. Just the way it is with these old cars. *especially if it is modified*

(im currently staring at a puddle of ATF in my garage from my "rebuilt" 727 :wtf:)
