64 Dodge Polara speedometer jumps and what appears to be cable noise.
What is the best way to lube without having to use a hoist.

Thanks

This is based on the 69 setup and assuming yours is routed the same way. Disconnect it from the gauge, pull it back out of firewall and lube with the same lube in your transmission.

This works well for me. Remove the cable then find a hose that can be clamped around the cable and attach a small funnel, fill it with ATF then work the cable with a drill with the hose being held in a vise. If you pay attention to the spiral in the cable and spin it the right direction it will help pull the lube threw the cable. I like to get as much fluid threw it as possible to flush it out too. This trick got my factory parking brake cables working perfectly after 48 years.

i am replacing my cable its already out,how about using the white lithium grease on cable before i install it back on car?or will trans fluid be better?

I suggested the tranny fluid cause it sounded like the OP really didn't want to take anything out. I can't imagine the white lithium grease would hurt but if you have to add gear oil to the tranny, why not just add a few drops of the same stuff.

I use white lithium grease. I think that's what the factory used as well.
I would think ATF fluid will drain off and probably leak from low points in the cable housing.

I would avoid anything with a lickening agent (grease), over time the oil disperses and leaves the gummy thickening agent. ATF is thin enough to be easily absorbed by the cable and also not create unwanted drag.

I used assembly lube the black crap that goes every where it worked great.

Pull the inst.panel & disconnect speeedo cable, pull it out & use some spray white grease towards the end, move it towards trans 6" repeat over & over until it seats in trans; no hoist needed.
