Good day, everyone.
My question - was a front sway bar stock on a 65 B Body ( Belvedere, Satellite ) ? Before I bought it , some prior owner put a large aftermarket sway bar on it, and I believe it is adding to the car riding like a truck. The car is only used for local cruise nights.

As I recall...back in the day... drag racers would either "loosen" the sway bars, hone out the holders/clamps, or remove them altogether.

Thanks in advance.

I recall police cars and maybe taxis had sway bar equipped. At least as I remember. I got one for my 63 fury and made a lot of difference with handling not sure about aftermarket ones but one I have didn't effect cushion with ride.

Thank you, Ron. My apologies for the late response.
The one installed on my 65 is definitely aftermarket . I'll try to locate a stock one to compare the diameters.
Thanks again. Ted

let me know if you want the diameter of the one I have for your comparison.

Good day, Ron.
My sincerest apologies for taking so long to get back to you. I'm 71yrs "young" and had a medical " event " which took me away from automotive items for a bit. But, hopefully I'm back !
Why someone put these sway bars on this 65 Belvedere ( I have no idea which owner ) and then added frame connectors , etc. It's like a mis-match of a wannabe drag car and a road race car ( ??? ) . I just want to make it a decent cruise night vehicle.
The front aftermarket sway bar measures 1.110 " . I don't believe that is anywhere near stock.
As was mentioned ( somewhere ) front sway bars came on police and some taxi packages. My nostalgia memory recalls that drag racers would remove the sway bars, if the sanctioning body ( NHRA, AHRA, etc. ) allowed it. Otherwise they would hone out the bushings and loosen the connections to make them as ineffective as possible and allow more front end lift / weight transfer.
I've attached a few pics of the front bar... from the front

and looking down...as well as the rear bar. I'll likely remove the rear bar when I put in new springs and Cal-Trac bars.

If you have some numbers on a stock front bar, it would be appreciated.
With best regards,

I'd be interested in buying both front and rear if you plan on getting rid of. Leonard

OK. If you can send me an email or phone number, I'll contact you when removed. Please note : if not noticed, the front sway bar is 1.110 in dia. I don't know what a stock one was, but this one is almost a large as the one on my truck, and it has a HD package.
