I looked up online to see when the pentastar was placed on the passenge fender and it looks like it was 63 thru 72? I have tried looking up pictures online of a 72 roadrunner but can not seem to find any with the pentastar on the fender. I don't think I see a hole on my fender but that car had work done on that side way back when so I have no idea. Was it all the way through 72 or early production. Mine was a later build (May 72)

Thanks for any help!

Bryan,

I have not seen a 72 with a factory placed pentstar on it. I have seen original brochures for 72 that displayed it on a vehicle. However, I do not think they made it into the production line...

My 72 plymouth duster did not have a pentstar......

Try looking on the inside of your fender for telltale signs of holes

Yep, at least on my '70 there's two tiny diagonal holes where it mounts. I've seen silver & gold ones (not sure what cars got the different colors).

Also, and this may or may not be related, on the "road & runner" emblems, the newer ones ('72+???) just have an adhesive backing & no holes or speed nuts on the back. I have no idea if the pentastars are the same deal, but I thought I'd mention it.

None were adhesive backed pre 71.....I do not think until proven otherwise they were installed in 72...I have never seen one on an original car...

Early 72 Cars had the Pentastar on passenger fender just like all the years prior. I believe it stopped in Dec. 71 or Jan 72. Two friends with early cars have them, this Blue one is a Nov. 20 build. A May 72 build will not have one.

I do not see it in that pic, the angle cuts it off....I have heard the same that a friend of a friend has one....My duster was built in feb of 72 and no pentstar on the passenger side fender...I am not completely doubting you but actual pics would be beneficial. It may have been an early plant thing that got stopped mid stream....This is not the first debate over this issue either...Most will say you cannot be wrong either way in 72 but no way in 73...

You need to look closer after you open the picture up. If your using a computer you will see it. If your using a phone your wasting your time. I don't speak in friend of a friend, I speak in fact or else I wouldn't have answered this post. You would be wrong to put one on a 72 built after Dec. of 71. I'll contact my other buddy now with an SPD of 824 to post his will that make you believe?

Cool your horses a bit I am just talking things out here and what I have seen..btw I opened it on my Mac and I do not see it. Scratch that I pulled it up on my 27" comp and I do see it, thanks...it can be easily missed...

If you read my post I am not doubting you completely but I would like to see original cars with them, that's all....and a better pic of it would be great.

There was a lot of variations with plants Plymouth may have gotten them early versus a Dodge but this is a good topic to she'd some light....

The dust spec...lol....I see it now thanks....it would be interesting to know what month the change occurred...

These little things are big things when one is restoring a car correctly....
Lol yea it is kinda hard to see

I may also have another original car that I know was a very early build as it had the cut outs for the go wing. This is a 72 sebring plus and it looks like it has one as well but could be rust too??? Can't see for sure. Unfortunately I didn't take better pics.

I believe it was there....

I bet in Chrysler historical society there is a document stating the change....would be neat to find that....

I can see it as well. Thank you all for your help. I will not be putting it on my car.

If I can be of any other help to you just ask, I know 71-2 Especially 72 B-Body's very well.

My understanding was they stopped in January of 72. So early production (Aug-Dec) would most likely have them, later would not. 63 was correct see below.
