well had my jell shot yesterday now I`m going to get a MRI ,just don`t like all the prodding .

That's the easy part. Try having an MRI done when your face/eyes are full of shrapnel, that's a bitch!!!

Don't worry about the MRI....it's just a big magnet that goes "tick-tick-tick" while you're in there. The old-school ones are "slightly" clostrophobic (sp?) since they slide you inside a big tube, but I've heard the newer ones aren't really all that enclosed. Absolutely no pain at all.

The BIG thing is to make SURE you take all the metal off of you AND BE SURE to tell them if you've ever ground on metal without safety glasses....be honest. If yes, then they'll take a few extra minutes to check your eyes for any tiny metal splinter that might be in your eyes before they start. Also let them know if you have any metal screws in an arm/leg/etc. It is a HUGE magnet after all.

The newer machines are not much bigger....The shape and appearance makes it look bigger than what it actually is. Sure if your a bean pole it seams like a big difference but the average BMI in todays society it is still small...Ever thought why they made the open slightly larger? You sure it was for comfort? More people that can fit in that tube the more $$$ can be obtained...

An MRI on your knees - piece of cake. Lay in the machine and take a nap. It will be over before you know it. I've had metal shavings in my eyes from drilling w/o safety glasses.. They never act like it's a big deal. I don't even tell them any more. I've had many an MRI - they're relaxing.

Just went through this. They were emphatic that they test beforehand for metal in my eyes. Was told it could blind me.

Good luck & I hope for the best outcome

well done and over I`ve had the one of my head were they lock you into a steel helmet my right ankle right knee and hip now my left shoulder ,they asked me if I wanted to be revived if not sure why and a blood transfusion said no can`t figure why they ask that question though, well now wait and see whats up :(

I just had an MRI yesterday for what we think is a pinched nerve in my lower back.

Had MRIs before and they are comfy/relaxing in general.-- However, this time- laying flat on my back is the worst for my pain.

I tried to do this last week and could not stay still with #10 pain for 20min.--Had to abort.-
So the doc. prescribed a 10mg valium and give it another go.--Valium??

It was the worst 30min. of my life.---Like getting a root canal without novocaine and had to hold still the whole time.---They kept asking me how I was doing---I said please waterboard me instead.

Had 4 MRI's done. Infact, just had one done last week. Sitting perfectly still on the bed, I fell asleep for a 30 minute cat nap.

Hope everything works out with good results!

I'm optimistic. My issue is very local and defined. (from my point of view/pain). I have no other health issues to speak of.---A structural issue?--My concern is damaging the nerves before they cannot heal properly.
When I tell the doc. --I have pain I may not be communicating properly. These days all doctors are shy about back pain patients just looking for drugs.

Be very very careful!!! My Mom in law listened to a md and took steroid injections in her back for a few years which ultimately put her in a wheel chair.
Also I would only consider surgery as a last and I mean after every other known rock had been turned over, type of last, before I would let anyone do any kind of spine surgery.
My wife had another expieremental nerve implant installed on her ear trying to alleviate the pain in her neck from all of her surgeries....

I do appreciate and value your advice. I had a very successful surgery on my neck and my right arm for "nerve impingement" issues. I am both impressed with --and respect the neurosurgeon that helped me with those.
I need to add however that his deal is what it is.--He is very good at his craft.

Where I am now is pinpointing my issue. --The surgeon is waiting for me to make an appointment. --- My reg. doc. is in front of him. and a neurologist is (likely)next. --
This is all very tough for me cause I need to know the bottom line before I move to get repaired/treated.

Boy I know how that is. In my case, there's only so many times that Humpty-Dumpty can be put back together again
