hey guys been doing some body work on my lift off hood and notice that the top of the scoop has a larger area where its low, to low I think to fix with filler, has anybody else ran into this problem with these old hoods, my best idea to fix it is the build the low spot up back with fiberglass and resin and then go over that with some filler any input would be great

I have the original lift off on my GTX. Have had it for 46 years. Don't/haven't had the problem. Curious - what do you think caused it to sink lime that? I couldn't see any other way to even it out than build it back up with FBBO/resin. Interesting problem.

I like your idea of the repair & pictures would help. Maybe you could build up the area with fiberglass & then just use the fiberglass resin as your "bondo" (no glass mat for final coat). "Bondo" is also fiberglass, but with A LOT of filler in it. The pure liquid resin is harder to sand for sure.....maybe someone else has experience doing this?

Is it in an area where you could make a support that can be fiberglassed in from underneath that would support It? 1/8 flat stock would likely do it, just prep the underside, place brace where it supports the low spot and glass over it. Adding much filler adds weight to an already weak or low area that could create more problems? Just a thought

the top off the scoop is where the problem is I have filler in it right now but I'm going to remove due to how low it is I will have to see if I use a support and glass that in maybe it will work I will keep you guys posted thanks for the input

Well worked on hood today removed the body filler that I had on the hood then I flipped hood around and preped and started laying some resin and fiberglass on the back side of scoop then I laid some weight on the scoop to push out the low spot and let the resin setup and it worked no more low spot now just some filler on top to smooth out
