I have never ran a fuel cell before and am seeing they are offered with and without foam inside. Anyone have some experience with them they can share.

The foam prevents fuel slosh, and fuel starvation when turning, accelerating, stopping, etc... I would never run a cell w/o foam, and i would never do it on the street for sure. Otherwise you'd have to keep at least 1/2 tank in it to prevent it from sucking air at lease in come circumstances.

it just keeps the fuel from sloshing. if you have a tank set up with rear sump there is no real need in drag racing unless we are talking about a really fast car. i ran one with foam in a charger for a few years. was about a low 10 sec ride, didnt seem to make any diff in anything.

Thanks guys, going to get one with foam for the 67.

The only thing I didn't like about the foam was that you couldn`t see how much fuel was in the cell. I have heard of the foam falling apart to but never seen it happen.

Ya I read that some guys were complaining about pulling particles out of their fuel filter, but seemed the concensus was that they left them dry over the winter and that's what was causing it.

My foam is probably 7 years old. I have never let it go bone dry, but i assume i have left it with the top exposed. No debris in my filter to date, and thats with Cam2 or 110 at all times. And thats the cheapest RCI aluminum they made at the time.

I keep a stick in the trunk.lol I think it was a broom handle at one time.

The main purpose of foam is to displace air in the cell. This keeps the air mixture in the cell to rich to explode.

As we know gasoline won't burn if the mixture of air to fuel is too rich or too lean

IMHO. Do not run a fuel cell without it.

Went through this in the off road racing world. Woofle balls actually work well and dont deteriorate over time.

If you are going to run foam I would suggest buying the "Fuel Safe" foam. That's the only foam that I have seen not break down and clog EVERYTHING down stream.

Holley has a fuel mat that installs in the tank, attaches to the pick up. It prevents fuel starvation by holding fuel within it. Larger the mat, the more fuel it holds. Use with foam IMO.
