My 1975 fury sport still has its original black shag carpet. The replacement carpet available is only the standard cut pile stuff...no way to get shag. I ordered new carpet, but a friend says he would paint it. I'm not sure how painting would turn out..sounds gross to me. I imagine that black paint would rub off on my clothes and shoes. I also have shag carpet on my door panels! The carpet is in good shape..well as good as shag can look I guess...its just very faded in spots. There's a worn thru spot on the passenger side but my friend suggested cutting out a section from under the seat to fix that.

Has anyone tried painting automotive carpet?
If so, what products do you recommend?
How durable is it?
anyone tried with shag carpet?
would you paint or replace?? Even if you would lose the shag look?

Use fabric dye spray on occasion for touch up sun spots etc. Works good, dries fast.

we would use Rite Dye on carpet

Have you looked for carpet at an automotive upholstery shop? They sometimes have more resources than some retailers advertise...

I've used sem carpet paint with good results doesn't come out crunchy

I've used paint for touch up and dye. Totally changed the carpet color in a 79 pickup years ago using Rit dye.....both gave great results.

Wow...sounds like I can spray paint my black shag carpet and be rest assured of excellent results...no crunchiness, stiffness, gooiness, paint rub off or flaking, and I can rub my toes into the shag and it will feel like new. Shitchyeah!
