Where is my 67 440hp from?

Oh, I guess I got caught up in the '67 440 thing!

Welcome from NC. If you don't mind, I have said 67 R/T and am in the process of saving to find a C440HP to replace the 66 383 in it now and would like to have a proper budget set, how much did the motor set you back? Was it complete? Was it drop in condition or are you having it rebuilt? Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

Paul,
Found the motor on craigslist in Queens ny (nyc) and i got it for $900. Its complete and never been opened. Its going to be rebuilt but the guy i got it from said it ran good when pulled all those years ago

Thanks for the info. $900 is a great deal! Great score! I could swing that for a complete motor! All the ones I have found around here are in the thousands and still need rebuilds! Keep us up to date on how everything goes with the install. Interested to know.

Come on down, everyone else is! Just messing, my dad's from Canada so I can't say much! He moved here in the late 70s before I was born. Said he hated the cold. These past weeks we definitely haven't had to worry about that! In 100s with 70-80% humidity, can you say sweat fest! Wait until mid September, that's when it is gorgeous!

Dam! Maybe ill wait till winter. Lol. Yeah i set a budget of $1000 for a complete core and just happened to stumble on this. Its taken years to get all the parts and stuff you need.....but i wanted a 70 6pack couldn't find one anywhere near poor working man money and i came upon this 2 owner 70 sport satallite loaded... but a 318 car.:( I figured i dont want to clone it because everyone does that so im building a 70 sport satallite 440 6pak 727 F8 green with air grabber.. all original stuff no repos. And get this i found the car here on long island and painted a guys house for it....talk about fate....i was meant to build a mopar muscle driver ...for the love of doing it.

They did, a friend in phoenix has one,a four speed. Good luck of course! I would trade my spare 440 67' HP engine just to have one dated on my birthday! Lol
Your sport satellite couldn't get a better engine.(prejudiced?)
My 67' 440 Hp is the nicest 440 I have ever owned. Smooth, reliable, and lots of balls if necessary.

Would he be willing to sell his 440 car?

I was with him in 1984 when he bought it. He is more Nuts with Mopars than me. I know it is hard to believe. It sits next to a 70' challenger 440 six pack bought in 1985 for $2,500 bucks. He has a large collection, so it is unlikely he we would listen. laughing at me mainly. Hey, I'm used to it. I did sneak a 67' Charger out from under him back in 2010, but that was a rare situation. I had a nice 67' dana 60 for a 67', we traded. And that dana was a spare for,,,,,,,,,,,, 67 Charger.

either a 67 GTX or a 67 Coronet R/T....... engine was assembled oct 5, 66........ car was probably built a few weeks later

Based on what we know, is there a reason it couldn't be from a C body?

Thanks eldubb440 so the story holds water. Is this the holy grail of 440's?

If you are going to do a mild build, it doesn't make any difference. A block is a block is a block. If you rebuild it, it doesn't matter if it's from a 78 Chrysler or a 67 GTX.

What matters is if it's a good block, not what it came from.

With all due respect to 69coronetrt, and you are very well schooled in Mopars, but if a I came across a 70' satellite that had a 78 cast crank engine dated 1978 in it I would look at it like a 36' ford with a Chevy 350 in it. it doesn't belong there, and I would walk away from it. Cast crank motors don't belong in older cars. But I'm old, and old guys have the Money. another minute example is I don't tolerate rally wheels on pre 70 A body cars. they look funny, and don't belong there. In the end, If I were purchasing a 71 or older Mopar, it would have to have an engine in it resembling the time. a 340 cast crank 73' engine for example would never find it's way into a 68-71 A body car of mine. and, There are lots of guys out there like me, and we tend to pay for originality.

Hey, we aren't dead yet! HAHAHA

Welcome to FBBO @70sportsatellite440

Having the HP stamp is worth considerably more than a non HP Block. The biggest value is the engine was built on my 14th Birthday! YEA!!!
You think that's cool....my buddy MowPar bought his '65 Belvedere Convertible because it is so mint, and the scheduled built day was the actual he was born. :D

MY dad has 2 67 GTX 440s. One is a barn find that he bought some time ago from a friends brother, the auto car. The other is a 4spd that he bought a couple of years ago. The 4spd car is the one he bought NEW in 67. Both engines are not stamped HP on the block. From what he tells me & what ive read they didn't stamp them HP until 68. My dad also has a 68 GTX 440 4spd & that block is stamped HP. If the 67 440 block is stamped HP is it a very late build ? As far as I know the 4spd car has been a PA. car for all its life. Its bright blue in color.

I'd have to challenge that and certainly it would not bode well for resale.

What you have read is one thing but I can tell you that I have been infactuated with the 67 440 and hemi cars for 30 years I have yet to even see one that is original that isn't stamped hp.

and just to add....... the 67 HP block originally posted is an october build, not exactly "late" in the model year

you are far more versed in these things than me, but how many performance C bodies were built? any? a few?........ I guess I was just supporting the claim it was from a GTX

BTW, I always read your posts in these matters.... thanks
