Hello:
A fellow FBBO member would like to have the hubs from my front drums. I've done this before using a long soaking of penetrating oil and tap the studs with a punch. Any other tricks, or tips? Thanks, and have a nice day.

What are we trying to do? Remove the studs?
I use a torch for many applications involving seized metal objects. Use just enough heat for the task at hand

If your referring to a front bearing hub with removable drums, and don't want to save the studs, just drive them out with a hammer. To save them you can thread a nut on each one first. Hit it square. If you have access to a press, that's even better, just press out.

If the drum is the type that doesn't come off the hub, then you have to drill out the studs from the back side.

If they are swedged or peened over and are holding the drum in place you can ruin the knurl spline by hammering the studs out. Drill the head off from the back and punch out, or you could cut and grind flush with the drum to remove the drum the grind again to the hub face and then punch out, or find a tall bi-metal hole saw the right size to cut the peen out, or take them to your friend or a shop that has a Bridgeport and have them milled off, or................

1. Big Puller
2. Heat the drums with a torch
3. Hit with a RUBBER mallet

This is called a swedge cutter for wheel studs some brake shops should have one to do the job call around your area.

My right side was held tightly by a very tight fit between the center brake drum hole and the hub (not the studs). NOTHING worked to remove it. I finally had to take it to a local truck repair shop and they used a big press to remove it. I then had to use a die grinder to relieve the center hole just enough to prevent it from happening again.

Are you by chance an IH fan?
