Hi All.
Bare with me on a stupid question, please.
Purchased a 1970 383 RR with automatic transmission.
The car was sold to me stating it was "numbers matching".
Currently, the car is in the transmission shop, with a tranny leak I could not chase down.
While the transmission was out, I went looking for these "Matching Numbers".
The only numbers I came up with on the case are the following:
PK34106681 3035 2482
Now, since the car is in the air, I could not see the numbers elsewhere on the car. But, none of those numbers I listed above come close to my RM23N-------- V.I.N. number....
Was I hosed on "Matching Numbers".

Again, thank you for your time and answers!!!

What are the last 6 numbers of your VIN?

I remember when I was trying to get a convertor from the dealer back in the late 70s that they verified my trans was a hemi unit but didn't specify a vehicle it was from. But that may also have been because it was ordered from the Direct Connection catalogue and didn't originate in a specific vehicle. I would think at some point Ma Mopar would put a vin stamp somewhere.

Yes these folks are right... the number you found is the one near the pan rail (does not show the VIN), that one's just the trans part number

Fantastic information, everyone!
Thank you.
Next trip down to the transmission shop, I will look at the correct area and let you all know what I find. Thanks again for all the knowledge.

Just to put it all in a tidy package what the others said and added a bit:

PK = Kokomo, IN transmission plant
3410668 = P.N. for 1970 383HP 727
1 = (is it actually an "L"?)
3035 = Tuesday, November 18, 1969
2482 = Sequential serial number = 2,482nd transmission built that day

Do you have the same concerns about the engine and sheetmetal matching?

4mayhemi.
WOW! That is a lot of in depth information!
Any additional information that you have the time to pass onto me would be MORE than welcomed. The car is still in the shop, so I can not access it till I am able to get it home, but if there are other areas that I need to look for, for originality I would love a list. Thank you all once again! WONDERFUL site here.

There are many experts here, I try and learn all I can from them, still learning.
You can piecemeal info with a lot of research, but the best way is post your car here for members to disect, especially if you're concerned with originality but haven't yet gone thru the car.

I have a 69 Road runner that was sold to me as #s matching. The # on the pan rail is indeed a 69 trans built close to the build date of the car ( with in a week). But the Pad where the VIN should be is blank. So I wonder if some did not get stamped. It came from the Calif. plant.
