Another B Body cowl rust story.

Hey, whats with the left handed steering?LOL!! Ya did a really nice job!! I like the bumper mounts, or whats left of them.

Nice work Red!! That's coming along beautifully. It's funny that you mentioned weighing the dirt that came out of your panels. When we carved up our rockers on the altered to do the 2dr conversion they we're pretty much full to the top with silt and there are no access holes that I know about. How did it get in?

BTW I'm digging the weight loss program on your bumper brackets. I think I may have to follow suit.

Thanks Sat65, yeah it's all hand formed, there's at least a dozen welds.....you just can't see them all in the photos, some can't be seen at all.
Then there's 20 or so plug welds where it meets the firewall (seam area)
Admittedly, I could've done a nicer job if I could've accessed both sides to do a final hammer up.
One other thing.......watch who your calling a Pommy:icon_axe:

Oh, headers are a nightmare (slip joints everywhere not to mention sparkplug changes.) that's why i'm running ported manifolds.......and your correct, they didn't move the engine over.

I realize this post is ancient....

I'm about to have to do this myself :( ... Any tips for a newbie? What gauge sheet metal was it? Did you hammer most of it?

It's nasty business! I bought sherman patches for upper and lower cowls. The lower had to be cut up and reworked to get it to fit. I think original gauge is 19 but i couldn't find any so i used a mix of 18 and 20.

Well here it is and it's not good, I knew I was in for a battle when I bought the car a few years ago......now i've finally bitten the bullet.
I don't have a camera at the moment, so i'll be getting a friend to take pics when he drops in with camera in hand.

You can see the upper cowl above the brake booster has issues.....it gets worse much worse.
Check out the fiberglass ridden cowl/firewall seam........oooh yeah this is gonna get ugly.

I had to do major repairs to the cowls on both sides. One side need an inner cowl and the other needed the outer cowl rebuilt.
