New gauge, sending unit but the level in tank is off. Ground is good, gauge spikes when grounded. Ive read that cheap sending units are to blame. Can i adjust it or is there a better sending unit/ NOS i should use. Thanks

Take a look at this Meter Match. It was developed for the Mustangs who were having the same problem. I was having this problem with my Road Runner and after trying so many things to get it working without success I was about to give up until someone suggested this to me. I put one in my car and so far so good. You just hook up positive and negative wires as well as split the wire from the sending unit to the gauge to an in and out connection, then you set high, low, and mid points of the unit to the gauge. i set mine up with the sending unit still in the tank abut if you have some help it would be easier to do with it out of the tank. It has easy to understand directions and the builder of the meter was more then willing to answer any and all question I had, and usually the same evening I sent them. If you're as fed up with your unit as I was it might be worth the $45 cost to try it. http://technoversions.com/MeterMatchHome.html .

Any chance the sender was installed upside down, so the float arm is now hanging down and sending a full tank signal? I saw a guy do this once before when he couldn't get the sender in the right way.

Id like to think i installed it correctly but lately anything is possible. The gauge on empty goes way past the empty mark and with enough gas were it should read 1/4 tank it barely moves up above the empty marker. thanks anyway Bruce and if your right i will tell you

Mine is doing exactly the same thing after recently redoing the tank. I filled the tank amd still no change. I may pull the sender once i use up most of the fuel in case i put it upside down or the float got stuck somehow.
I tested my gauge with a resistor board and it seems to work fine through the range of about 10-70 ohms.

When I put mine in, I put somewhere between 4-5 gallons in, probably closer to 4. The gauge needle barely moved. Then I filled up and the needle deflected full right. I've filled up three times when the needle gets to half and have put about 10 gallons in, which is spot on.

I know the needle on my Crown Victoria reads E until I get above four gallons in it, and also goes above F when filled. I can also drive to work for four days before the needle goes from F to half, but two more days of driving will put me on low fuel. Just a symptom of angled fuel tanks. :)

as long as ohm's read right and you check the sweep while hooked to the guage and its ok. then it could take some minor adjustment. its a very small ohms variation, so old wires and bad connections can make a big diff. make sure when you ohms the sweep it is fairly smooth.
