I bought a laptop two weeks ago a Lenovo, which is the cheapest on Office Max sold. I have had two Toshibas and they were great. But they no longer carry them and only have Dells. I guess I should have thought this through but I went the cheap route and I'm now paying a price. This infernal machine has such a low volume that I can't sit at the table to hear it. I have to hold it close to my face to hear it. I called their tech line, and while the man (India) was trying to help he wanted a hundred and fifty dollars, from my Paypal to turn things on to improve the volume. I didn't get upset but I told him these things cost twice that price, and that I would rather shelve this and go buy a good one. Imagine, a company sells you something that doesn't perform right out of the box and they want to charge you to fix it. My semi little rant is off. Postscript: My Linda is good at figuring things out on computers. She has saved us many times in the past and is willing to make a go at it. I'm so lucky to have her on my side.

These computer manufacturers got to make more money somehow.

I am very pleased with my Macbook, don't need anti-virus programs or updates, still going strong after abut 10 years (even dropped it a few times). Paid about $1,000.00 which works out to $100.00 a year. Really hasn't slowed down much either like most windows operated systems, that with time go slower, and sloower, and slooower.

P.S. Regarding the original complaint above regarding low volume, recently my Macbook speaker began sounding a little distorted because I accidentally played someone too LOUD. So volume was not ever a problem for me.

My Samsung S8 is the BeesKnees!

Still have a laptop. A Toshiba, worked great. May update it just cuz my gal still uses one, but like M3 says. Smartphones the new laptop.

I use an 8 year old Macbook. Works great. I added some RAM which sped it up a little to use with all the new video. I hate Windows machines. Use them at work. THEY SUCK !!!

Phone for everything except work, have a company issued HP Elite book, nice piece.

You usually get what you pay for, be a cheapskate &
you price point shop, you deserved what you get...

I make an actual real effort "to not buy anything from China",
if I can help it !!
If I need something I can't get domestically, made in the USA
IF I have to get something offshore, especially electronics
I try to get Japanese electronics
{or German use to good, hard to find}

Most laptops suck & don't last,
especially if you drag them around with you everywhere
just riding in the car seat next to you jostles **** around

If you fly frequently, just try putting them in you luggage,
they won't last hardly at all

My 2013 Made in the USA HP is still going strong,
both laptop & PC
{I'm sure it has outsourced product in it, but at-least US based company made it}

I must confess my bros. in-law is an IT/Computer Guru/expert
he set them both up for me
I love them "fast as all get out" never any issues...

I had a ol' made in the USA "Gateway" before that
it lasted some 14-15 years, changed operating software a couple times,
it still works great, but just a slow processor,
IIRC it has a Pentium 2 Processor...LOL, that's like the stone ages today...
It was snail slow compared to todays std.'s

I built my own desk top pc in 2003. Did a few upgrades since but still going strong!
I still have a lenovo built ibm thinkpad from 2004 that i still use for obd scans. It has outlasted my wifes promacbook. Hell i still have a compaq i bought in 99 with w98 and is still working. The periferals don't last though. Lost count of how many times I've fixed the kids 2013 macbook.
I do like my current hp pavillion. Good quality with no issues but I'm not a fan of w10. I still like xp!

My wife is using a Lenovo for the last several years and I don't think she has any complaints.

I bought a Lenovo had it for two months one day wouldn't come on, sent it in for warranty and they said they wouldn't cover it because it got wet.. it didn't

I have a old Samsung laptop it's about 8 years old now little big and clunky. It works just fine! I bought my wife a lap top/tablet combo for school it's an h.p. and from what I can tell it's fantastic (I'm not aloud to touch it!)its 4 years old now and still looks and function s like new! If you take the screen and fold it the wrong way it becomes a tablet! Again I'm not aloud to use it because I brake everything and I bring them to the garage for schematics and sometimes they might fall! My lap top is missing a few keys!

Lenovo used to be IBM, if anybody remembers the "Thinkpad".......they sold the laptop division to Lenovo.
My wife used to work for IBM and is still using her 15 year old laptop, works fine for what she does with it.
I personally prefer my 3 year old Macbook Air that has worked flawlessly. Smartphone screens are just too small for these tired old eyes!

If you enjoy typing with your thumbs and squinting at a small screen, sure they are. Kind of like using a ratchet instead of an impact wrench to break lug nuts. Different tools for different jobs.

I use my laptop "Dell" for work. At home or in the office I have it in a docking station hooked to a wireless keyboard, mouse and 2- 27 inch monitors. If I go on the road, it's just a normal laptop. Use the phone for quick ticky tack stuff but rarely surf the web on it. E-mail, text, navigation and a quick question look up during dinner or at the bar. And oh yea, I make a phone call on it once in a while too.

You should check where you called. There's a good chance you called a private fixer thinking you were contacting Lenovo and that's why the gave you a price to pay. No legitimate company is going to sell you a new product and then charge a fee to fix/diagnose the problem. I did that very thing with my mac when I was first having a problem with it. I thought I was calling an apple help line when in fact I was calling one of these scammers that's number looked like it was apples. They wanted $500 to fix it - India. I went to Apple Store and they fixed the problem for free of course. Know who you're calling.....

Toshiba laptop with gobs of memory and a tortoise processors. Next time I will take one of the grandsons shoping.

I took it back to the store and when I told the tech guy what it was doing (move the cover/screen and the sound changes, plus the low volume) he offered my money back. Which I wasn't expecting, so I upgraded to an HP witch was on sale, two hundred bucks off. So for almost the same price of that old one I got a brand name (that I knew) with a lot more gig and functions. Thanks for all the input, you were educational.
