Should I go aluminum or plastic? What brand was best? Is the edelbrock $35 one as good as the $100 ones other brands offer?
Aluminum won't do much...except conduct heat. If you're stuck on 1" this would be money well spent:I'm guessing this one would work. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-8718

The 1/2" phenolic would probably do the job though. Not even a gold plated carb spacer is worth $100.
The spacer I posted above is not phenolic. Disregard.Good deal, thanks. I didn't think you should have to spend that much on one. It didn't make sense.

Again...not $100.
Aluminum is an excellent conductor of heat. It does also dissipate heat very well too but, a constant heat source (combustion chambers) in traffic with an aluminum spacer between your intake and carb will do very little. Ask me how I know. Also, why wouldn't aluminum do much? I thought aluminum helped reduce heat.
I see it warns not to use with any intake with exhaust cross over - or a cast iron intake, for that matter. Bummer.Take a look at this product. He was at mopar Carlisle, I bought a few for my 440 cars, but haven't actually tried them out yet. Different product, made very well, he had a bunch of literature guaranteeing drops in temperature

Didn't have to change anything in my case. The spacer got the carb linkage/swivel clear of the heat sink for the choke on the stock intake and I just hooked up and adjusted the throttle cable as usual.I have the stock cast iron 4 barrel intake with a Carter comp carb.
I've noticed some of the Phenolic ones also say "Not for street use". A couple reviews say the spacer warped or crushed but the manufactures say it's "drag race only".
I decided to try the edelbrock one for as cheap as it is. $35, it comes with new studs and two gaskets.
For those of you that used a spacer with a stock intake did you have to adjust the linkage or mess with any of that. I don't see how an inch would cause many issues.
If it isn't embossed or the instructions don't read specifically which side is up, my guess would be it makes no difference. With the phenolic spacer it is hollow in between the exterior and interior walls. Does the open hollow side face up or down?
