Hi everyone,

I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I sold my Dart today and figured a good way to help numb the pain would be to buy myself some stuff for the Satellite. I've got about $1000 to play with, what are some places to start so far as performance upgrades go? Thanks in advance!

make it breath better in and out . and a great ign works wonders on a budget .

If for the street only I would stay small on the headers, probably 1-3/4", you'll get better torque in the street rpm range..

I have a pertronix ignitor 3 billet distributor and coil for sale. Has about 50 miles on it. 200 plus the ride. This will give better spark and cleanup the firewall a bit.

this has lots of ways to go. think end goal when you are making these choices. always fix the broke stuff first. make a list of what you want to do, be realistic. then choose what you can do from the list.

Shop smart.

Fix whats broken first like was said.

We used a set of the Summit branded headers on my sons car. Cheaper and built as heavy as the others.
Watch the parts for sale section here for a used alum intake.

well headers with very equal length primer tubes , 1 3/4''od and long tubes with a 3'' collectors . remember longer is better torque . street cars need torque , think long runners on the intake as well . your carb is an afb carter ? it should be okay just some tuning . your not going inside the motor , yet . so stock cam will work with the new parts fine . but thats next . so think good equal length headers long runnered intake and a great type ign system from stock electronic dizzy with a good box to msd , pertronics , ect....with a great coil . and your valve covers gaskets . unless your showy , then buy quality covers , and seal them well .

If you go for a new distributor the 'Summit' brand Chrysler type is an excellant/low cost choice. Gets rid of having to adjust points and such.

This is all really helpful everyone, thanks. Car runs really good as is, nothing needs immediate attention...I just wanna go fast! Not that it's a slow car, as is. It does have the Carter 4 barrel.

One thing no one mentioned is gears. Not sure what you have in it now but being a 383 car its most likely 323 or 355 gears. if you are not concerned with highway driving the best way to increase acceleration is to drop in a lower geared posi third member. 411,s should give you a noticeable increase in 0-60 times.

And no 3" exhaust pipes. Torque killer.
Chrome is worth 50 hp! I saw it on the 'net!
Dont forget with more go you need more whoa.
If you dont have a clutch fan you may want one. Frees a bit of hp.

if your car has 2 1/2 to 2 1/4 tail pipes it should be fine for your rpm range and cam . i had a 66 sat commando 383 4spd . a while back in life , still a fav of mine . but the engine will work better with some free'd up air in and out . and remember long runner'd intake and long header 1 3/4 primmer tube make better torque . and ign could be your best investment before the rest . and if chrome adds hp then i've got some big ponies coming out of these , lol .

Not sure you actually said it, but I presume 383. I agree with the others 1 3/4 tube primary headers, 3" collector is the best first step up. More modern ignition is next, mainly for consistency and minimal maintenance. Intakes & carbs are probably next. PM me with any misc needs. I have lots of stuff I collected.

I say keep the carter, like was said above, buy a used dual plane intake and some cheepo 1-3/4" headers.

Depending on your springs, either buy a decent cam now or wait and save so you can upgrade the springs at the same time.

Gear and converter go way over that budget, but they make a world of difference, especially in conjunction with all of the above.
