Hey guys, I'm about to get my cop car 15x7 steelies powder coated and buy tires. I want a tall tire for looks because I plan on buying ESPO custom arched springs. A 255/60/15 will fit normally so if I went 2.5"-3 over stock height in the rear would a 255/70/15 fit, also allowing me to run a lower gear on the Highway without the car running with it tongue out? Also I want to run atall tire up front, around a 27" tall tire, a skinnier tire wouldn't bother me. Perhaps a 215-225, I feel a 235 would be too wide and rub.I've searched it up and a lot of guys have differing opinions, any advice would help. I'm going for the Dick Landy '67 Super Stock look, but street car. I really like the 70s California rake. I will also be installing a hellwig 1 3/8" sway bar around the same time. My Coronet is the silver 500. I mocked up the old cop wheels and liked the look. The vintage Landy ads I just purchased at Mopar Nats relit the fire for Landy's 67's stance.

I just put 275/60/15 (28" tall) on my 67, I think that's the max in the stock wells. There's no more room without modifications or air shocks

29 tall on the back of mine. If it helps

I run firestone firehawk 255x70-15's on my '67 Coronet 500 and they fit. Just barely, but they fit. My rims are 8-1/2" with 4-7/8" back spacing.

This wagon is running 255/70/15 on Chrysler 7'' wheels. Stock 53 year old springs. Just for reference.

I think the 7" wheel is the trick. Sucks the sidewall in enough to clear. Maybe I'll run 275/60/15s for width and lose an inch. Would any tire places have a mock up available you think? I'll probably have to find a guy with 275s on 7" steelies who'll let me test them haha

Also would you guys have any idea what height Landy would be around over stock in the rear? I need to talk to ESPO but don't know what to gauge it at

Looks nice, stock wells?
Was but not now. I had less than a quarter inch inner/outer with 29"/12" now narrowed dif ,4 link and mini tubs I do have 5 inches of clearance to top of factory wells.

If you're looking to run 275's for a wide, beefy look your best bet is 15x8 wheels with 5" of backspace. The Mopar Dude can make the steelies you want no problem.

If you're gonna stay with 7" wheels, I would recommend sticking with 255's. When you put 275's on a 7" wheel it pulls the bead in so much it makes the sidewalls balloon out.

I was going to go to him, but I found a set of cop steelies lical for a good price with pristine caps. I'm going to use 255/70/15s then. Now Ineed to determine what to arch over stock, inch wise.

In the first Landy photo I would say they were using Super Stock springs. They can be 3' to 5'' higher over stock springs. That depends on the weight over the rear wheels.I.E. what's in the trunk, fuel tank and anything else that you may do to lighten the car if any.

I'm going to be 3.5" over stock with the springs and tires over my current size tires and XHD springs. I think this will give a good aggressive stance and not be too crazy. 2" from the spribgs and 1.47" radius gain from the tired. I might go 2.5" over stock, I need to do some mock up with the ole jack and jackstabds

With the re-arched springs 255/70 or 275/60 will fit. But as said above rim width and back space are key. I have 255/70''s on on 67 and 275/60''s on a 66. Both 7 inch steel wheels. 67 has SS springs, 66 has clapped out 51 year old springs. Both sizes fit either car fine.

I run 275 60 15s now on 8 inch wheels but have put a 31 10.50 15 truck tire on a 7 inch wheel under my 67 Coronet R/T. The rear is lowered 2 inches by turning the front spring hanger upside down so I had to disconnect the rear shocks to put the tires on. The car was scary fast with the 5.13 gears then.

Landy’s 1967 Coronet sat pretty level, slightly raised in the rear. That first photo with the red barn in the background you have is the modern day rendition which is high in the back. It never sat like that back in the day. Look at the top of the wheelwell compared to the wheel. You can see no tire on the old photos. On the first photo you posted you can see lots of tire. That is not the original look of that car.

The last photo I posted it is leaving the starting line and it sits up on both ends of the car.

I see this is years old. How did your tire and wheel choice turn out? Gat any photos? Are you happy with the results!

The car now. I went with 2” over stock springs from ESPO. Just enough over stock for a tough look, nothing crazy.
