Does anyone have experience removing the heater hose nipples from the intake and the by pass hose nipple? Is there a special tool? mine are original and I would hate to attempt to remove them and damage the things! I would like to install new ones from (Parts Mix)

If you can get "original" ones out without "damaging" them I'd be surprised.
What kind of damage are we talking about?
Well, maybe lots of heat someway but you still are going to have to grip them unless that slot at the top works.

I want to replace them with new ones, what tool is used for the top slot?

I used a propane torch to heat them, and a steel chisel to turn them. The chisel had sides along it's length so I was able to turn it with a wrench.

Try a short strip of steel (1.5") that fits in slot tight. @ vise grips on strip to make a t-handle. Probably won't work but....

I didnt think this was a thread like this thought it was going to be nipples and taking the panty hose :rolleyes:

Put something in the nipple to keep it from collapsing and use a pipe wrench

440 Source sells those hose nipples also. They also have used water pump housings for fairly reasonable if you mess yours up during the removal process.

Frank Mopar has the correct answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah... I've always torn the heck out of them getting them out so I leave them in unless they're all rusted through. A LOT of heat & vise grips for me. I do like the other ideas on here if you want to save them + the idea of putting a rod inside to keep them from collapsing... that's a good one.

FWIW if you are pulling the WP housing the front nipple has to come out to get the bolt out. I like the idea of cramming something in so it dont collapse. Then V-Grip pipe wrench cussing and blood are involved. Kinda like the newer quick connect coolant/fuel fittings. Used so factory Monkeys wouldent cross thread stuff. Bitch to disconnect fittings.

I decide they are not so bad, in good shape and the original 318 1inch fitting has ripples on it not smooth like the repos, they are forever staying in the intake, the new ones from parts mix are staying in a box! For sale if any one needs them one 1/2 and one 1 inch 20.00 with shipping.

I have never seen a 1" heater hose nipple on any car. Think u need to learn pipe sizes. lol

Talk about out of context- what if someone clicked on thread and got sent to #17 post at the top of the page!!!

Heat! Heat! Heat! I mean acetylene/oxygen torch heat. Glowing red hot heat and vise grips. With this amount of extreme heat you can adjust the vise grips w/o setting them too tight. Of course this is easier if you have the water pump off the engine and in a vise.
