69 fiberglass hood!!!

Who has the best fiberglass hoods. Lift off and Bolt on for a 69 coronet???? How much???!
Best bang for buck, Glastek, fits great and prices are very fair. American made in Illinois too. They often go to the shows and swap meets and will bring along an order for you to pickup to avoid shipping charges.

I've said it before here, my AAR/Stinger hood is really good quality. Probably not the least expensive, but it fit great & took very little prep. Very stout.

I agree with 66. Save yourself the dilemma of receiving something that you might regret. A few dollars more is sure well spent at the point your at.
I didn't buy AAR, I fell for the sales pitch and I regret it big time.

It isn't a hood, but.... Good thing I'm retired - got lots of time to try and make something out of this and if I can't I'll throw it in the garbage and call AAR. Check out that smooth top edge.

How bout the wave in the bottom. And if this looks bad you should see the hood I got!
Call AAR.

good grief whered you get that from

Really looking at these hard. My original hood is pretty rough. I found a bunch of old bondo under the multiple paint jobs.

I may have also said this before, but a less costly usually means poorer quality. I built a Plym Arrow in 1985 to replace the one that I had immediately crashed. The stuff on the original car was quality, a little heavy. The replacement fiberglass front, hood, drivers door & rear hatch were from an inexpensive company. The hood was very friendly, it waved to everyone, the drivers door was light but crappy. Buy good stuff even if it's a little heavier.

Totally agree with 66 on buying good stuff. I recently purchased a hood, assured excellent quality and so on and I regret that move in the worst way. Now spending countless hours trying to make something out if it..

Had to take the shape from the stock hood and build a jig to check and correct the shape.

IMG_1670.JPG

Hood was so floppy it needed strenght and proper shape built in first off.

A long ways to go and this is my punishment for buying inferior fibreglass. It will end up costing me more than a quality piece would have cost to start with.

The centre is still floppy, more reinforcement needed and the right side needs 1/8" added on the entire length. Talk about a shitload of work, not even close to starting on the scoop end of it.
66 is right, buy good stuff. IMG_1674.JPG

That's not the ARR stuff is it?
Hell no. Sled City. I wish I would have bought from AAR though. A fellow member posted a picture of his AAR hood that he bought, only needed a scuff prior to paint. It was a nice piece.

Whew. Really thinking about getting the fiberglass 69 RR hood from them to replace my beat up stock metal one.

X2 on Glasstek. Received 6BBL bolt-on style, 589+25 crate fee+180 shipped to California from Illinois, for my '68. Fits good, sturdy and still light enough, finished in flat black. The only thing I wasn't prepared for was cutting the holes in the front of the scoop myself, even though I've never done that before it was really easy I'm happy with it. Glasstek or AAR seem to be the only way to go for these hoods, I researched it for quite a while...

FYI, I just looked back at my hood research and the AAR was no where near the most expensive, just a little more than a couple other brands which I think are quite inferior. Also again, my AAR hood fit is GREAT.

66Satellite is right.
I fell for the sales pitch and I DIDN'T buy from AAR or Glasstek. What I got was an inferior piece of crap with dozens of hours of ongoing work and material going in trying to make something out of it.

This reflection shows what inferior crap is - how could that even make it out of the mold. Let alone packaged up and sent out to the customer.

Left front corner of hood - talk about inferior fibreglass.

Imagine the feeling after spending 350 bucks (not including shipping) on a hood and getting this..

Look at these waves.... Since buying this hood I've seen pictures of an AAR hood and man did I get screwed over. Pictures don't lie. Buying a hood or other fibreglass? Go with a quality company and save the embarrassment and headaches.

Malex I feel for ya brother..some time ago when I began doing homework to try and find the vendor I would go to, I talked to the sled city guy and was quoted $700 for the hood and I think $250 to ship...sounded good...I later read quite a bit of negative feedback so I decided to go elsewhere..POINT IS the higher price had me thinking their quality would be the best and I was originally going to go with sled city because like many of us I've learned the 'you get what you pay for lesson' the hard way..To the OP, do your homework and search them interwebs for reviews on the various vendors, while you will see something negative about all of them the bad ones will become apparent..

I’m the “other guy” Malex mentiond whose been fighting with Sled City glass parts and I’ll whole-heartedly back up what Malex said; avoid Sled City parts. Don’t just take my word for it, check out the pix I posted on all the work I’ve had to do (and am still doing).

I've said it before here, I'm very pleased with my AAR / Stinger hood for my '66 Satellite. Great fit & finish, delivered when they said it would be. Not the least expensive, but not the highest. Fair price for great quality.
