Nope, I know the 440 engine in my 65 Coronet is a D code HP. I believe they said it was from a 69 Road Runner ( I got the beep beep horn too :thumbsup: ). I haven't checked the trans, but have a replacement one on the ready in case it's not working. I appreciate numbers matching and those that like or have them. BUT mine isn't and never will be (have no idea what happened to the original 318). In fact resto moding will be in the works as time and funds allow. :thankyou: :usflag:
 
It's not always about the nunbers. Sometimes it's about the whole package or the fun factor. #s matching is cool. A car optioned the way you want is cool. A car set up like one you used to have or always wanted is cool. Who cares what others think?
 
If it's numbers-matching (engine, trans, rear, body stampings, VIN) that's how.
So engine intervals can be changed, body panels replaced, trans gutted and rebuilt and same with the rear end. Sounds like down right bragging bs to me.

Our B body were built to drive and driven they were. Most lost #matching early in life. Why does this make a driver preserved car any less in valve than a # matching shot to hell?

At midnite on a Friday it was 3 bbodies all in the air swapping diffs to get each guys ratio that they wanted; yup, that's the way it happened 'back then'. I don't remember any of the cars being more than 1 yr old.
 
And the stuff these cars went thru and make it 5 decades with the drivetrain they were born with is kinda cool!

My 62 Belvedere has a factory replacement 318 poly block, trans is not numbered. So who knows, I modified it anyway.
My 69 GTX has a 69 Charger RT block and a 1976 727 truck transmission. I'm glad because it had better parts. I drive the hell out of it now! It's going to kill me in the gas card lol.
 
Wish I had the matching motor and trans for my 70 convertibird. But the vin matches the front and rear of the car, so it was roadrunner enough to warrant sinking money into. If I ever choose to sell it, I won't get what a numbers matching convertible roadrunner sells for.

I'm not in the car for the money though, plan to be just about buried in it. Also, 440's are more fun than 383's
 
I think my '71 Satellite Sebring Plus is all matching. The engine and tranny match each other, but numbers are off by 1,000 from the VIN dash plate,radiator, trunk and fender tag. I kinda doubt someone just happened to pick engine and tranny 174109 at a junk yard to put into car 175109 , but who knows. I need to post my car on the for sale section, so I kind of hope most shoppers are not too concerned with #'s. (although this price range car isn't what elitists are looking at anyway) Still, it is always cool to see stock engines, interiors, etc.
 
My girl started as a 72 318 Satellite Sebring with an 8 1/4 rear and stock 727 when I bought her in 1984 at age 18. Now she's got a

340 from a 1968 Dart, a fresh high stall 727 and a 3.91 8 3/4. But every piece of her body is never rusted, original steel. That's what matters to me.

I voted nope who cares. But I do kind of care, if I were to come across a matching numbers car and verified it, I certainly if at all possible keep it the way it was. But my car is not, so I do what I want to it and don't worry about it at all.
 
Not only is it not "matching numbers", it's not even close ( actually right at the moment it has NO engine and NO transmission in the car, but it will be getting a 5.7L Hemi and 6 speed . . . I want to be able to drive this thing and have fun with it . . . and I WILL have fun with this car ! ! !
 
Most of ours are numbers matching but my 505 inch tfs max wedge headed 66 charger isn't lol
 
My 1969 Charger R/T SE is numbers matching Engine & Trans, but also as in UN-Rebuilt Original 440 Magnum Engine in good running condition, Factory Original Exhaust System still intact, points Dizzy, Carb, etc., etc., basically UN-Touched since new other than normal maintenance like Oil Changes, Tune-ups, Brakes, Carb Kit, Hoses, Belts, etc.

I wonder how many of those are still out there ?

Because I'm sometimes torn as to "what" to do with the car ?
Drive it and enjoy it ? wherein sooner or later I WILL have to redo stuff ?
or,
leave it alone stored, driven rarely to maintain the original UN-touched condition ?
I mean I wonder how many are left running around on all their original parts, and still in great shape ?
