Hello. I have been a member for a couple of months and have been browsing the site lots as I searched for a project. LOTS of good info here. Found a project. I have a good mechanical background but will need some advice/direction to do this one right.
First about the car
It's a 72 Charger SE, 318 auto with 8 1/4 rear. Engine and transmission are gone.
AC parts in front of firewall are gone, AC parts behind appear to be there.
Car was a horrible green colour with a green vinyl canopy top and green bucket interior (seats gone)
My plans for it are to build a really nice cruiser that I could realistically drive to work everyday (weather permitting). Had the following in mind:
-Big block stroker. Have a 383 block but leaning towards getting a built short block. Opinions?
-6 speed manual. Already have a complete kit from SST
-8 3/4 or Dana 60 with 3.55, with 28" rear tires this gives me just over 1700 rpm at 65 mph
-full disc brake upgrade

-want to put a good AC system back in
-repaint in B5 blue with a black canopy vinyl top. White interior
-front and rear factory style spoilers
-would like to find either a set of Ralleye doors or a set of the slots that I could fit into my doors
-either an AAR power bulge hood or wait till AMD has theirs ready for sale. Would really like to put a Ramcharger setup in it.

Any advice/opinions are welcome. Either about the car or how to properly use this site ie: Not sure why the pics ended up in the middle of the post.

Thanks in advance

Welcome from NW CT. Please keep us updated on your project...

Welcome & do what you want it's yours. Although I sniff a stroker lurking, that's what everyone does nowadays.

Welcome to the madness from NC - looks like you're in for a load of fun like the rest of us . . . . enjoy !

Thanks for the reception. Very much looking forward to this project. Will haves LOTS of questions to post over the coming months. Will try to take pics as it progresses

Thats a Cool looking money pit
Hold on to your wallet and enjoy

Look's like a great start.

And 70% started out green!

Welcome,so first nice choice ask around I'm a nut for this year charger I have two currently!, second if you want a reliable daily driver order a summit 360 magnum and get an 8 3/4 the 6 speed is the way I'd go if I had it! I would stay away from big blocks I have a 340 and a 440 i prefer the 340 the big block is a pain to work on way more money and fuel economy sucks! I get much more out of a small block ! If it's a race car big block all day more power for less cash ! But as a d.d. the 400hp 360 is plenty add a few things you can squeeze a bit more out and have a nice streetable car! If you need help specific to the car ask away nacho is a freaking book on these cars he knows a ton more then me but I got nothing better to do so feel free to ask away . I have some spair stuff laying around too if you need something ask I might have it .here's my two

Well it's a start, you got the car, now all the work
& there's gonna' be a lot of work...

the 383 stroker isn't a bad idea,
BUT; a 400 block is a tad bit stronger
but I have built a few 383 strokers 3.95", several 4.15", 4.25"
& I had no issues with the blocks, even under heavy loads
spinning upwards of 7500 rpm...
I never had any block failures or problems...
Yes they aren't the strongest block,
no OE block is if you go over about 550hp,
they all need some help...
IMO unless it's an all out drag race deal,
it'd be a good choice...
pistons {probably custom} for a 383 based stroker
depending on over bore size
may be more cost prohibitive/expensive than a 400 base
or even 440 RB block base build...
But some good quality main caps, studs & better hardware
& also a main girdle will work wonders for strength
IMO you should so that same stuff with any build too...

Welcome to FBBO from hot, dry & sunny NorCal Sierra's

Start a build thread...
Racers Hangout or the Engines trans & drivetrain
or even the general discussion forums
check out some of the other stroker build threads,
it's been done a ton before

good luck with the 72 Charger project

It looks like AMD now has power bulge hoods available. Don't buy door panels from Year One their vendor does not have the correct colors, found that out the hard way. Ordered dark green for our car and they arrived looking more turquoise than dark green.

hi and welcome to the site looks like you will have a nice project going keep us updated on your progress and we love the photo updates here enjoy your stay alot of good people here with a lot of knowledge ,best of all enjoy the ride

lots of good advice already. Exactly what I was hoping for!

-snakeyes. The blue car above is exactly what I had in mind with the exception of white interior.

-Bb70charger500. Saw in other posts you went for surgery. Hope all is well. I agree with the sb over bb argument but I have my mind set on a bb stroker, just can't get that kind of torque from a sb. Nice cars you have there

-bee71. Thanks for the heads up on the door panels. Was planning to get them from Legendary.

-Budnicks. I agree. After more research I'm gonna find a 440 core to start the stroker build. Was looking at the 440source 512 kit.

Welcome. I like your ambitious plan.
