65 dodge coronet 440 6pack. car dies after driving short distance . let set for a few minutes and it will start again. Drive a short distance dies again. If I drive slowly will go farther. Thought it was fuel pump as it looked like center carb wasn't getting any gas Replaced fuel pump and filter. Continues to die. Thought coil and ignition control box maybe breaking once hot. Changed both same thing happened died when I put my foot in it. I'm now thinking maybe its a float issue as it looks like its not getting gas in center carb again. I've had car 10 years and I had engine built when I first got it. I have never had a problem with car . Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks

How many miles? Maybe carb needs a rebuild, fuel pump sucking some air thru cracked fuel line?

Remove your gas cap and try driving it and see if it is any better.
You may have a plugged up vent hole on your gas cap. When you run out of air in your gas tank, the pump cannot pull the gas from the tank and the carb(s) will go empty.

Probably has less than 4000 miles on engine. Only driven in summer to car shows. Thanks. Will check fuel lines

Have the air cleaners off. Take it for a drive. As soon as it dies, jump out, look down the center carb, give the throttle a pull and see if the squirter is working. If nothing, you have a fuel delivery problem.

You can also take a good sparkplug along. Jump out when it dies, pull off a plug wire and plug it on. Make sure the outside of the plug is grounded and crank the engine, looking for it to spark.

Good luck

Does it stumble or act like the keys were removed?

How old are your tank and fuel pickup? Was there any rust in the filter when you replaced it?

Stuck float or leaking float valve seat?

Any rubber fuel line before the pump collapsing under pull? Opening again after shutdown?

Check the sock on the fuel pick up I bet your fuel tank is dirty

What happens when you try to restart after it dies? Does it turn over? I ask because I had a problem after the motor got hot. When I would try to restart...nothing would happen. The engine would not crank. Got advice off this forum to clean the bulkhead connections on the firewall. This resolved the problem...so far. However, is sounds like your problem may not be electrical.

Pickup in your distributor is overheating. Replace it. I see you did the box and coil now go one step further.
