Hello everyone. I'm getting ready to replace quarter panel skins on my 68 coronet. I'm thinking about spraying Bed liner on the backside of them for sound and protection before I install them. I would stay away from the areas I will be welding of course. Has anyone ever tried this or think it would be a good idea? Would like to get some opinions. Thanks everyone!

Ryan if your wishing to protect your welds and areas that are hard to reach or see 3M makes a product called Cavity Wax its in a large rattle can and you can get different length wands with it that spray 360 degrees.
We use it in all out rocker replace jobs ect, the stuff hangs in there great and in my opinion adds life to repairs in sealed areas.

I'm gonna look into that. Thanks a bunch!

My guess is that you are looking for protection and sound deadening, right?
Not a bad idea. You can also get factory style sound deadener that is sprayable. I bought 2 one gallon cans from Resto Rick.
Good luck.

I used tintable bed liner on the inside and black bed liner on the bottom. Hoping for sound deadening and protection.

That's right kern dog. I believe I'm gonna go ahead spray some type of protection on there. Can't hurt. Thanks

i like it...... also, lizard skin sound control is a nice product, dries a little slow though........I believe the wax is intended to creep into the seams, and is applied after the fact.....correct me if i am wrong

FYI That's what the factory did - they sprayed the quarters with sound deadener before they were installed. That's why you never see it on the outer wheel houses.

Yes, it goes in after.

Seam sealer first. I had the shell chemically dipped so I started with bare metal.

I did the trunk in my 67 Coronet with Herculiner. Previous owner painted over rust so I had to climb in and wire brush and fill in pinholes for 3 days haha. I then hit it all with rust reformer in the iffy spots, rusty metal primer in the ok spots and once everything cured I primed over it all snd scuffed it, then applied the Herculiner. I'm not afraid my quarters will rot or my trunk, looks pretty good and nothing slides around anymore and won't marr anything. I'm going to do my floors inside the same way. I also found a knife in the passenger quarter haha, you can see the reformer in that pic. Excuse my less than stellar photography. Mine is textured though, do if you want a different look you might want a lighter textured type.

I sprayed mine with U Pol Raptor Liner. It came with a gun to spray it and ended up looking close enough to the factory sound deadener. I also used it in my wheel houses and underneath. I think it helps.

Threewood, do you have a closeup picture of that Raptor liner? it would be nice too see a real example of that product.

Im using Rapture liner in the trunk, underbody, interior roof & floor of my Bee. It easy to use. I'm just wondering how well it helps with noise reduction. I'm also using Fat Mat on top of it. It may be overkill & now I'll have no excuse to not hear what my wife says to me.
