Bought on ebay, not sure if its correct for my car, ad says it is, pics of other restored mopars show similar hose installed...so I order it and of course, it doesn't fit my p/s box fitting...the hose nut is too small.....wtf here? Also, why is it two hose sizes put together? Why does it have to be such a big ugly eyesore in the engine bay? Alternatives?

Oreilys auto will make you the hose you need on the spot.

Not here, my local orielly's is staffed with special ed high school kids and post-menopausal women with bad attitudes.
Figures, oreilys here is full of old hot rodders. Autozone and the rest are as you described

Call Layson Restoration. They will have the correct hose.I've been there myself, and the hose from layson is correct. If you have the old hose, a hydraulic shop can rebuild it for you.

Take that piece of crap to a hydraulic shop as well as the fitting from the steering box. Using the fittings on your new hose (which they will cut off and reuse) they will make one far superior and sell you the right size fitting for the box. If you would like it a bit longer or shorter that that one, let them know. Using their hose (which has a very high pressure rating) you'll never replace it again.

Please note that power steering hoses are a material object and have no intelligence whatsoever, must be big time operator error.
Alternatives? Make sure you buy the right one next time or have a local hydro shop twist up a new one for you! Good Luck

My 2-cents....return the e-bay hose and buy one that's correct from a Mopar parts seller...like someone on this board or other one of your choosing

Back in the 80's my power steering hose went. Went to parts store and bought two of them.

I don't remember when the changeover happened, but Chrysler did change the fitting diameter on the power steering box somewhere along the line.

EDIT: I think it happened in 1970. According to this thread, pre-1970 is 5/16" flared, and '70+ is 1/4" flared.

In my case ('68 Satellite), I went from that ugly two-piece hose to a single-piece hose from an M-body, and replaced the thread-on hose fitting on the P/S box with one from Bouchillon Performance (1/4" flared end) to allow it to work ( http://bouchillonperformance.com/inc/sdetail/987/1014 ) - but it sounds to me like you have the reverse problem - M-body fitting to B-body hose.

If you have a Saginaw pump, an M-body hose might work with your existing fitting. Or you can install the earlier 5/16" fitting. Can't say for sure without knowing the diameter of the fitting you already have.

If you have a local tube and hose shop, have them make a new one, I took my original to local place here and had them make a new one, and I know it was constructed with good quality hose and connectors.

I bought mine from O'Reillys and they showed two hoses, one for a Saginaw and the other for a Federal, but I think they called them an American pump.

of all places, Napa produced the correct hose that worked......20 bucks....**** ebay.

Don't known how old you are and if your car is a forever keeper. If it's a keeper buy a 2nd one?
