Would you be pissed

Nice guy. Is he back in your good book?
Let me say once bitten twice shy. Will see what happens when its time to pick her up.I install carpet not once did i try to hide any thing from my customers, there word of mouth is gold to me.

Good. JMO, but in the big picture when you look at the cost for this glass deal and potential misrepresentation from the shop and compare it to the overall budget and project, this is a very small issue.

Not a fan of a lot of body shops some are sneaky bastages!

Three cars done and no problems. I also dont know any glass shop that would take a windshield out of a car, especially a car this old and guarantee they wont break it and pay if they do break it. Was the windshield leaking? Rust issues? Why not just remove the stainless and tape and paint? The installation of the glass or gasket cant be a issue as you told them go ahead and remove it, so now were just talking the price of the glass. Whats a windshield cost? Whats the cost in relation to the entire paint job? If these guys have been up front and decent with you up to now id have eaten the cost of the windshield. **** happens.

As I, Sonny, get older I need more outside help....& I hate getting (Fuc#ed over)..

as I am still working full time & 1/2..lol....Snake,I feel your:drama: pain!

i don't care about the past
call a glass shop and ask about
removing a windshield and report back what they tell you..lol
And that's fine, but the shop should have called the owner and said "Hey, we need to pull your glass. Is that okay? And by the way... there is no warranty for this work so if we break the glass it's all on you. Do you still want to okay this?"

Odd in that you've given the shop business in the past and they get all shitty about this matter? I have some problems with a shop that did my motor rebuild I'm still trying to work through; but all in all it's a cheap-shitty way to do business. A shop sets their profit margins in their quotes hoping to snag more profit along the way and also cushion it for possible rework on their dime. This sort of crap tells me it's a lousy place to conduct biz with...

As I sit here I feel bad the shop owner paying up, but but they should of told us ,the day they contracted out the remover I missed them by 10 minutes, one would of thought tell the customer not 2 mouths later.

If they outsourced the replacement with some chain, that's likely the problem. The people that do it are not vested in the business. Nor do they have experience with older vehicles or even the ins and outs of the business. A coworker just had a windshield replaced and the guy they sent destroyed her dash, threw away a surround and then told her he did extra work that others wouldn't have done. Crazy stuff. They said they will repair the dash, but so far that hasn't happened. Everyone has to learn but it can be a long road there. Extra tough when they are learning on your car.

The 71 is very close to have paint.Would you be pissed or am I nuts.Hears the story took the car to the body shop 3 mouths ago.One mouth into it they call and say i would feel better removing front and rear glass,i say ok.Just yesterday the shop who took out the glass gave me a price to reinstall the glass + a new front windshield WTF, O he says that shattered and you need all new clips,no way i said the clips are like new I know i seen them first hand,so I ordered new got them today. The thing that gets me and we called the owner of the body shop why after 2 mouths we just find out now,all he can say is he sorry.Something does not add up,is the glass shop trying to sell me my owned glass,or did it break. The body shop contracted the glass shop not me and there was no talk about breaking glass, bonded glass is far easier to remove than gasket right. What would you do.PS this shop has done 3 cars for us, with no problems.
Wow yes that would upset me I have been a body man for better than 45 yrs in shops I worked when we used a outside glass shop to do all our removal and installation they always warranted the job if they broke it the replaced it at no cost

Having owned and operated an auto dismantling business for over 32 years, I can tell you first hand that removing a glue-in windshield is a dicey situation. Whether you use piano wire, a cutter, or putty knife, there's no guaranty it won't crack. All it takes is one little flaw somewhere or accidentally putting too much pry in the wrong spot and it's cracked. If I was the body shop, I would have explained that and had you sign a waiver. That way, you could make an informed decision on whether to remove it or not. Now if they broke the back glass, there's no excuse for that. It's a solid tempered glass and pretty hard to break under normal conditions. I would make too many waves with the resto shop until they finish the car. It's kinda like going to a restaurant.....you really don't want to piss off someone cooking/handling your food! Complain later if you think it will make a difference and you don't want to return there.

yes the body shop should have explained that there is a chance the windshield could break. the bigger picture is they wanted it out and once out could inspect for damage issues and generally do a nicer job. What does a paint job like this run? What are we talking about when materials alone could be close to a grand alone? Five six thousand or more? Whats a windshield 350 dollars? You told the guy ok take out the windshield and it broke and its not as if he took it out with out telling you which is a whole other story. The guy did three other cars with no problems so honestly if it were me id pay for new glass and tell them you pay for the install and everyone should be happy. A guy who does good work, never ripped you off before and does work in a timely manor is not all that easy to find, thats something worth considering

Well said knowing this will be my last car,due to having a few problems now after having a stroke some 5 years ago,I just cant handell the stress with building a car,I bit the bullet and told the shop I will pay for the glass. If there is another car I will by one done.

You know at times I've felt the exact same way with my car. I think we both should know this car restoration should not be about stress but a passion we enjoy, but at times it doesnt work that way. My whole thing with this windshield and i guess i didn't express myself properly was, yes they should have told you the risks but when your spending thousands and thousands and the shop, i hope has been good by you, dont stress a windshield. Yes it sucks and yes its more money but in the end i dont think its worth getting nuts over. Hope your feeling and doing better and in good health.

Man, there's lots of good info here and yes, pulling old glass is dicey but.... I've done several over the years and I'm no pro but all the ones I broke were AFTER they were out of the car and broke due to ill handling. One was out after working for over two hours to get it out and I felt so good once it was out only to break it while carrying it to it's storage location. I felt like banging my head against a wall....kinda like you want to do when your kids make you go crazy :D

I stored all the glass (factory tinted) from my car in my daughters attic of her garage. It has those pull down stairs. I was carrying the rear side window and its a convertible car, i lost my balance and dropped a original glass. Was i ever pissed off over that, never considering i could have fallen backwards and been hurt real bad.

Even tho the tunnel seams dark right now,you gents shed some great advice.I just hope I make it threw this restoring car.
