Can anyone recommend a good instrument restoration service based on experience in the last couple of years? I would prefer recent experience. I had my gages restored about 12 -14 years ago but at the time he claimed he could no longer locate a correct 150 mph speedometer head unit and all he could do was clean mine up which did nothing - it bounces all over the place.

I'm sick of watching it bounce around so it's time this winter to give it another try. All the other gages work and look great - just the speedometer function. Might even consider a do-it-yourself project if anyone has any experience with that.

Thanks.

I use Redline Gauge Works.Yes you can just send the speedo to them without the complete cluster.Been dealing with them for 20 years now.
Works for me.

Have you used them in the last couple of years? I ask because places and people change with time and who used to do a good job may no longer be at the top of their game for various reasons. I used a big name guy the last time and was always suspicious on the story of "I can't find a new 150 mph speedometer head" but who knows.

Instrument Specialties does top quality work. They have done at least 4 complete guage sets in the past 3 years for customer cars. They are not cheap and they do send work out to be redone on some components, but the work is very nice. The biggest obstacle is that you may be facing a 6 month or more turn around time to get the part back, once you get an estimate from them.

Thanks for the replies and recommendations. I will contact both of them. A 6 month turn around is something to consider since the car is otherwise in good shape and at my age those 6-month turn arounds start to get significant.

I've never used them but many here have & sang their praises.

Instrument Specialties just did the gauges for our car this past May. We had them rebuild and calibrate all of the gauges as well as re face them. We haven't installed them in the car yet, but they look amazing. It was not cheap, but the work was top notch. They quoted us 6-9 months and called us 3 weeks after sending them in saying that they were done. So it was a pleasant surprise for us on the timeline.

I contacted them and they said about 4 - 6 weeks for a single gauge and that they could rebuild a 150 mph speedometer. So I will pull it out sometime next month and send to them.
Thanks for the suggestions.

I will also support what others mentioned above in relation to Instrument Specialties.

Recently, they did my whole dash and the work, quality are top notch.....Also, they 100% stand behind their work.

The downside is the obvious....wait time...

Can they also re-chrome the outer edge of the 67 dash clusters? I know it was some vacuum process at the factory.

Yes they can do that work, but to my knowledge, it is sent out to a third party to do plating. If you are looking for someone to only replate the pieces, then there are several choices available as well, such as GCar.

such as GCar.

That's who they use. You send the bezel to Gcar and they'll send to Instrument Specialties when done or whatever arrangements you make

Are you referring to graveyard carz?
