What should take precedence, function or asthetics?

that is a lot of cheese for a rat like that..lol
it all depends on your personal preference

Function and practicality. Then there are legal restrictions on restricting sight.

I don’t see that restricting site. But as above, it is tasters choice. What YOU like. I see tachs/gauges mounted on the steering wheel, under the dash, in dash factory holes, custom holes in the dash, custom dashes.... mounted on the scoop, in the scoop, on the hood like the DIXICO. And as pictured on the E-bay ad, on a plate on the cowl. Which is t really a bad idea IMO.

With any gauge, perhaps importance plays a role as well, you got to be able to see the gauge. A tach dead front and center of your line of site is a good spot as far as I’m concerned! Even more so at the track.

Personally I like mine on the Dash, there was a guy on the Abodie site who made these cool brackets that hook on the underside of the Dash pad with out molesting the pad, looks good , works great

For nostalgia's sake, I like my Super Tach II mounted on the steering column. Always had them like that when I was young, but like y'all know, you have to divert your eyes from the road to see the thing, so I probably cheat myself out of a lot doing that.
Oh well, I always shifted by ear anyways. :)

By the way, did you all notice that car has an ultra-rare "gear vendors rear"?

Cowl mounted gauges are just fugly !! And unless you race, the tack doesn't have to be in an obtrusive place. Mounting it on top of the dash is fine if you need to keep one eyeball on the tach and the other of the tree but otherwise it makes no sense. And really, in most cars what purpose does a tach serve ... my wife's KIA SUV has a tach - WHY ?!?!? Even driving around in your muscle car you're going to shift (if its a 4 speed) when it feels right when cruising - no need for a tach. And unless you're a regular street racer, you won't need it for the occasional race between stoplights.

Just my 2 cents.

Shift light will tell you when to shift without looking away from track I mount tach s away

I guess the answer depends on how seriously you are going to be at using it. If it's strictly a race car, then I say function should take precedence. Otherwise I am 100% with Moparedtn. Aesthetics.

On the Column. Don't forget the rusty hose clamp to honor Galen Go-V-A.

I've always liked the Dixco hood tachs. My only issue with them is finding one with the original Mopar parts logo that isn't more expensive than a car. :)

Damn. I remember the Hurst Lightning Rods for auto's from the 70's. You were almost my Hero..........
I thought they were an early 80's item? '84 Hurst Olds comes to mind.
I like the ideas of on steering column, or a repro in dash tach , or possibly adapted to mount in the A pillar with a custom or repro trim piece, myself.
