Tremec bolt in 5 speed (true or false)

We put an American Powertrain TKO500 5 speed in our GTX and after nearly a year of a cyclic vibration ( a 1.5 - 2 sec period) @ 2000RPM, we cut the floor out and raised the rear of the trans about 2" to balance the drive line angle. Tried shimming the rear end, but no luck there.

Now, no vibration, no header (TTI) drag and decent running. We cruise at 70 @ 2000RPM in reasonable comfort...

With the 3:54 Dana, I'm 2150 at 70. What fluid are you using and how much?

I'll be honest.. Not really sure, I think it is ATF. It was what came with the kit and it was red.. Filled to the bottom of the side plug.

As a side note, my diff is a 3.23:1 ..

After reading this I'm stick'n with my 18 spline n gettn a gear venders....sum day.

I did the SS-700 5 speed swap from Keisler. The kit dropped the back of the trans about 1-1/2" which caused the TTI headers to hit the steering links. I cut back the T-Bar cross member and boxed it in with 3/8" strap, then used a spacer between the kits cross member and trans to raise the transmission back up. The speedometer cable still does not have the best fitment, but it is working.

Check out the april 17 issue of Hot Rod, specifically the Hot Rod To The Rescue section. I saved the article as I'll be having similar issues with my 727/GV combo in my 65 Coronet and will need to do the same style of driveshaft.

To me, the term "BOLT IN" should be taken with a grain of salt. When it does happen, count your blessings.

Plan to use the Duralast 7300S seal, and this in. Capacity reported to be just less than 3 quarts.
Fill is on passenger side of trans.

Seal in. This is the rear seal evidence throwing onto the exhaust and driveshaft. Cleaning it up. We will see.

Wow, mine wasn't quite that messy. I'm probably not putting as many miles on mine though, haven't made any road trips yet. Hope that seal works better for you. I think I'm still getting a drop or two leaking out every once in awhile now but not enough to actually leak down on the driveshaft and make a mess anymore.

I installed a Keisler Tremec TKO 600 in my 64 Savoy and only cut the shifter hole in the tunnel. The tail shaft housing is very tight to the torsion bar mount and could use some massaging.

I now planning to go to a automatic. Looking at a 4l60E.

Old thread. Tremec from SST in now. Dry and a little taller in 5th. Happy. 2-3 happy too.

Have a Shaft Me keisler tko 500 kit in my 71 runner. Yes.. it bolts in. Yes you have to cut the tunnel. No the driveline angles do not line up no matter what you do. The trans is at more of a down angles and the tailshaft is much shorter than a 727/883. Two choices to resolve the issue. 1- cut and modify the structural T bar cross member 2 inches up..No f in way IMHO.
2. Talk to The Drive Shaft Shop and have them make you a CV front joint driveshaft. About 6-700 bucks for an aluminum, or $1200 for a Carbon fiber ,unit but it saves butchering up the floor and frame

Distantly related, the TKO 5 3550 is a wet mess after the road trip. Leaks everywhere. Gonna replace the rear seal with a Duralast 7300S from Autozone. What fluid weight and capacity?
I think they recommend GM syncromesh for the fluid. I had leapks all over until I realized the loctite red sealer needed the spray primer used on all aluminum surfaces or it will not cure and seal. Ferrous parts like the bolts are no problem.

Yeah....the bolts might go in. It's everything else that's a problem. Driveline angles have to be within spec. Clearance issues. Pulling hair out ect.

With Keisler it's more like a salt BLOCK.

I wished I would have done a GV on the back of my 883 instead of the TKO 500. The Tremec can't hold a candle to the shifting of 883. Although, to be fair that deep first gear of the TKO and the 4.10s out back have allowed me to wop the **** out of alot of cars off the line. Once the 383 is up to revs good luck catching up.
