I've rebuilt the power steering pump....should the steering gear be flushed? If so how is it done?

Route the return hose from the gear box to a collection container. Cap or plug the return hose connection on the pump. Then top up the pump crank and slowly move the wheel stop to stop topping up the pump as needed.

I just remove the return line on the power steering pump, have someone start the car and pour in power steering fluid to the reservoir to keep it at least ½ full and let it drain till you see clear looking fluid. Turn the car off reconnect the return line and fill it, then turn the wheel from side to side to remove any air that is in the system.
