Agree on the strip calk stays soft so you can pull it loose 50 year from now. That is what was used 50 year ago on it.

Who are we kidding? The only water 99.9% of our cars will ever see is from the end of a hose in the driveway.
 
For the major wash, I typically dust the car, go over with quick detail and a microfiber towel, the use a wet microfiber sponge wipe down and then dry with a chamois.

I am with you,the last car a 74 Duster never seen a hose,the buyer thought i was full of **** lol.true tho. PS i found the caulking rope.
