Impact gun! What do you use?

Hey guys not sure if anyone here has bought a new air gun recently but I haven't found a decent new air gun anywhere! I might be a bit one sided as I was a heavy equipment/large truck mechanic and my 1/2 air gun was the super duper snap on bad ***. This thing did stuff 3/4 inch guns had issues doing. I've had two in a 8 year time frame. That's decent life out of them especially being used and abused on big stuff like that . So since I've been injured I haven't had to use an impact gun in 5 years . My compressor isn't the issue it's a huge 70 gal 5 HP unit my snap on guns ran on it and did everything I asked my last gun recently blew apart after years of abuse and then nearly 5 years on nothing it quit. So I looked to rebuild it but I guess since it was so old the kits are not available blah blah blah and the snap on dude here is a dick head . So I figured I'll put it aside for now and just grab a new $100-$150 gun should get a decent gun that would be more then enough in the garage doing car stuff . Well first was harbor freight I got there big bad *** they compared to my snap on gun better or the same in every way with only a $130-140 price tag.... got it home couldn't take a leg nut off? So OK maybe a bad gun I took it back got another .... same thing ? Hmm maybe my compressor is having an issue called my father in law asked to borrow his 40+ year old ingersal. It did the job without hesitation! So OK not my equipment. So I went on to Lowe's I then had the argument with my self about buying an elc gun it would be so useful on those tire switching events in the woods when you buy a car with 4 flats and you need to put 4 rollers on it ! We all know what that's like! Anyways after looking around and buying the battery witch wasn't included it was like $500 bucks. I said nope I'll stay with air and a 4 way . Bought there brand it was OK maybe 200-250 tourqe wasn't impressed and figured after awhile some will disappear so I took it back they said it was good for 600 tourqe . Did homedept . My wife said just buy the elc gun so you don't kill your self changing tires or lugging around the air hose . So I looked again same elc gun from Lowe's $350 out the door with an extended warranty came with the battery and charger too. So I decided to bite the bullet and go elc I have a 4 year warranty now it has a light on it and no hose to deal with I would like an extra battery but for now I can atleast change a tire or tourqe down some valve cover bolts(just kidding don't do that!)
I still would like an air gun in the shop so my ? Is what types of guns work anymore that won't break the bank ! Does anyone have a oldy that is still a bad *** they might sell?

Just to clarify the gun has 3 settings on it that's why there's 3 different forward torq specs then you have the big reverse spec witch if it can do even half of that I'm happy!so
100 in first gear 300 in second gear and 700 in 3rd gear then a staggering 1200 in reverse !

I got this from Harbor Freight a few months ago. I was skeptical for a cordless impact gun, but this thing is a monster, 1200 ft-lbs. Removes lug nuts like they are already loose. Was light enough to easily get up into the front end to remove caliper bolts on my DD when I rebuilt my brakes. Have to be careful tightening as there aren't 3 settings like on the Dewalt gun, but trigger pressure did the job and after the first couple of lugs, I got them tightened down real close to torque spec. For $250, I was impressed. Extended warranty was another $20. Extra battery is only $50. Lets see how long it lasts. I have to put snow tires on my 2 kid's cars soon. Not worried.

It looks very similar to the dewalt I just bought I'm sure it's made in the same Factory just gets the different covers installed .and probably tea fraction of the cost .
I gave up with harbor freight tools they keep braking I had a scaler lasted 3 hours of use . Then a right angle wizze wheel made it 3 mins then the forward bearing blew apart .

Yes I oil my tools!

Milwaukee M18. Two settings, max 700 ft lbs. Does not have the monster 1200lbs like the harbor freight but it works for me in my home garage.

How is battery life and if you've had the impact for years, are you still on the original packs? I bought a cordless years ago and they batteries wouldn't charge after about 5 years. Manufacturer dropped the line and no battery replacements available. None of the battery warehouse places would touch the packs since they were Lithium Ion. Basically used it a handful of times and then it made a good paperweight.

My only 1/2 drive one is a Chicago Pneumatic that I bought around 1979 at an auto parts store on Main Street in East Point GA.
If I recall correctly, it was a "Direct Connection" store.

I've had the same IR, 1/2", air-gun ...since 1980. I have absolutely no idea how many hours are on it. I do know it has been flawless in operation, and never failed to do what's asked of it. Anything that wouldn't move...broke. It's run by a IR 7 1/2hp, 80 gal. compressor.

www.powertoolrepairohio.com . They appear to have parts for snap on impacts and exploded view of all small parts. Hopefully they will have what you need.

My main gun is an IR 232 550 ft/lbs IIRC.
Got that used in 1985.
In 2010 I picked up a $10 swap meet CP of the same vintage for my shop away from home.

I recently bought a Porter Cable 20v drill/circular saw/sawzall combo for hurricane duty. It's the first cordless tool I've had in 15 years because I was tired of the batteries being 90% of the cost of a new tool and battery (if you can find them) when they decide to give out.

There is an impact tool available for that system I may have to try.
I've got a few friends with those and they seem to do OK.
Might be a good thing to have for JY runs.

An old Craftsmen 1/2" (they built some great tools once), an Ingersoll Rand 1/2", a 3/8" butterfly impact (love it but don't remember the brand) and a 3/4" Ingersoll Rand all air.

My Harbor Freak came apart 6 months after I bought it. Took it back and to my spprise they gave me another. The new one licked up on me 6 months later.

Probably for just that use is fine. I used mine a couple of times to tear core engines down. Probably exceeded it life expectancy
