I recently did an rebuild of my numbers matching 440 for my '69 GTX. (Details to come when I find time to do the write-up.) The original valve covers had markings on the front. I was told many years ago at a car show by someone who seemed to be in the know that these had to do with assembly identification at the factory. Does anyone have specific details or additional information about this? Now that I'm finished with the rebuild using the original valve covers and painted the engine the original Hemi orange, I'm considering duplicating the original markings. Any input will be appreciated. See attached pics.

They are indeed assembly-line markings which are references to numbers on your vehicle's build sheet (see links to photos below.) Reproducing those numbers is up to you but it absolutely adds that look of originality and assembly-line correctness that I personally love and include in my restorations. Go to the MMC Detroit website to learn more. Hope this helps...

When doing mine on my 69 charger I found those similar # on the valve covers,915 on the left cover looking from front of engine n will have to check pics for other side,I figured it was the assembly date before it was put on the line my car has the front stamped as Jan 8,also did you find markings on your block on each cylinder.

I would like to post information on my engine build. Since this engine build was a restoration+ rebuild, should i post it in "Engine, Trans & Driveline" or
"Member's Projects & Restorations"?
