Reference for restoration

Why don't we start a restoration reference section? I know alot of reference stuff is on here but you have hunt around. How about starting a section for each model and year where good pics of systems/ variations etc are up loaded. You need reference pics of a 69 coronet and it's fuse box you go there. Also a place to list supplies that are needed to restore a system or a whole car. Often we know something needs to be replaced but knowing the correct name for some rubber seal is the problem. If we could add that kind of stuff it would help those who come after us(the younger generation). Standing on the shoulders of giants I call it.
 
That's a crap ton of work. I'm not sure how many moderators this forum has, but for one or 2 guys to index all the various things would be a major job. Since this site covers a wide variety or mopars it would take forever.

How bout you go to mymopar and download a service manual....Anyone restoring a car needs one and it gives you everything you need....

I understand what your asking but there is no full proof thread to restore your car. I could not even imagine diving into what you are asking that is a tremendous job....

Thats why we have build threads and you have to do the leg work...Ask questions, search the web, go to shows etc.....

This has been discussed in some degree and Joey created the blog threads here recently to accomplish this task. Some have partaken to this format.

What your asking is a daunting task....Part of restoring a car is the learning aspect....you will make a mistake and everything is fixable that is part of the joy of restoring a car....You yourself accomplished something...

As you see responses here just post a topic about what your searching for and most will answer...
 
Ahhh. Yes. There is no silver platter young man. It's the leg work, the blood,sweat, and tears that you learn from, and makes it all worthwhile in the long run.
 
A good point of reference is to use "google" as a great way to find specific things. Im not trying to be a jerk but, generally if you google what you are looking for you can find it. Case in point.. I want to see the driver side headlight bucket for a 1964 PLymouth Fury. Here is a google result of that search. Or how to install a seat cover on a 1970 Dodge Charger bucket seat. In short if it has been done its on the web somewhere. And if you use google to your advantage the world is your oyster..

Just thought about this and thought I would add it to this post. Go look at some of the members garages in this forum. That's how I figured out which freaking hood latch loop I needed.

all this could be avoided if the search function didnt suck.
 
I guess I look at this through the eyes of my career as an Airline pilot. The traveling public enjoys the flying safety in America due to blood sweat and technology of the past and present. The FAA regulations we often say are written in blood. Some past crew and passengers paid the ultimate sacrifice. Why make it in vain.
I know I'm not making a valid comparison here but its the process i refer to. Why waste efforts in reinventing the wheel.

Marks thread on production differences is great. I have often seen parts labeled on eBay being for a 68 Charger and they look nothing like mine. Now I know different suppliers were used over the model year.
That just one example.

Say one of us is parting out a car. Take reference pics, for a Charger for instance, and upload them. I plan to do it on my parents 318 car. Its my parts car. Its unmolested but for the parts I removed to get out of the weather. I know it's like it should be. So many of these cars have been worked on over the years they may or may not be correct. Having good pictures to reference would make the long restoration road bit shorter for the next generation that works on older and rougher cars.
It's was just a thought.
 
To MarPar's point about the search feature. It works but there is no documentation on how to make the best use of it. It shouldn't be easier to find links back to FBBO using Google or Yahoo than to just start on FBBO.

One tip is to use parentheses. For example, "Thanksgiving 2017" yields the intended result first. However, searching for thanksgiving 2017 yields a different list with the intended result far down on the list.

So, a STICKY for tips on how to use the FBBO search feature would be a good thing and extremely helpful.
 
Don't you all get Joey pissed off over the holiday weekend, lol.....His blog system is a great idea if people actually used it....

Until someone actually does their own build thread or blog than you have ZERO idea the time that is involved in accomplishing that....The build threads here are detailed enough and relate to almost all B body builds.....Sure a search feature would be helpful but it is not that difficult to click...Take a piece of paper and note page # post # and what it relates to....
 
While the thought of a reference section sounds great (and I would certainly read it) the recent posts by Richard Cranium with his two Chargers shows just how many differences there can be in a similar car model built the same year. What is correct on one car might not be accurate on yours, even if they're built in the same factory in the same week.

Well, we should all know by now that Joey isn't a fan of sticky threads rendering the OPs request pointless.

I have ranted on thread titles before so I'll be brief. Say what your post is about in the title. Make all your posts related. Don't use "Question" as a title to which 6 or 7 pages of relative, meaningful discussion result that could help someone if they could find it using search.

I've searched for different things over the years here and read a lot here, sometime other information you stumble upon when looking for something will help out in another area of the build you've never even thought of. I have learned a huge amount of knowledge on these cars and continue just about everytime i log in. so read, at least these guys here are giving it up, that have found out thru trial and error, growing up around them, or some even that put these cars together originally.

There isn't a re-do forum and I think people would get tired of me ranting about how this or that wasn't done right then I do it and it still isn't "right" according to someone else. Besides, after I get the paint corrected and the front end goodies put back on I'm driving it. I'll let my heirs do a proper restoration on the car.

This is where I think your wrong....A redo thread is a good idea. Imagine how many people will give ideas suggestions ect...

I usually post stuff when I upgrade or fix something. I just don't have it all in one place.
