I just put 15 inch Cragar rims on and was wondering If the stock 14 inch rims are of any value to anyone. And yes they are crusty.
any easy accessible date code reference for these rims?Date coded set of steelies 68-70 in good shape are hard to come by and are sought after. If pitted bad they are not sought after...
Yes where are the date codes to confirm?any easy accessible date code reference for these rims?
Rims are confusing to decipher....Mopar had two manufacturers. Kelsey hayes and Motor Wheel both had different formats by the stem and both where available depending on plant. The date code reference is by the valve stem to the L and R of it..70 and above they had a PN stamping as well..They have also been reversed stamp and mix matched...any easy accessible date code reference for these rims?
That is correct that is motor wheels format...So that is interesting, does that mean the wheel I have stamped with M37 8 29 is a Motor wheel? It has the pentastar and part number 3699117 on it, but cant find any reference to that number anywhere.
We are talking about the original crowd that is either putting NOS or new vintage tires on the rims for correctness or people that like the look. The new vintage tires are readily available from even summit these days in 14". Again Bru you stick your nose in an area you virtually know NOTHING about. Pre 70 any non hemi/six pack relating to 383/440 cars came with 14" steelies and dog dishes unless optioned differently. The guys that have a car optioned for those and building an OE example are desperately searching for a set of 5...It is a tall order...After 5 years I finally found the four I needed...Lots of parts are sough after, the problem is they sought after by one guy on the other side of the country who knows he's the only guy who wants them. That's an issue so many folks don't get. You can have a one of one piece, but if there's only one person who needs it, supply meets demand and value is lost. You can sit there and watch it collect dust or sell it for what That Guy is willing to pay for it.
14" wheels aren't worth much because it's getting harder and harder to find 14" tires anymore.
I agree....however, you are a young buck here and you do not have someone that trolls on you in the interweb....Hopefully, you do not ever run into that because those people truly have a sad life....Lets keep it civil guys my thread here and we are all entitled to our opinions as thats what I am essentially asking for. This is our hobby lets have fun with it!!!
Thanks for calling me a young buck you made my day seriously! Yes I could buy some cheap used tires and use them as the car is not yet done and sitting on brand new rubber. I also have a lot of bodywork to do as well and I would not want to ruin those pretty new aluminum Cragars so they actually do have some value to me now that I think about it!I agree....however, you are a young buck here and you do not have someone that trolls on you in the interweb....Hopefully, you do not ever run into that because those people truly have a sad life....
Crusty rims of any type are no bueno but as a member above stated they are good to keep for rolling cars around or if you get a flat....
If the dates are 7/68-10/68 I would be interested 5.5" rim....Speaking of rims not sure if I should post here but since people are looking at this thread, I have a set of 14" early style 10" dog dish, are in great shape, not crusty, is there a market for those??
These are 5 inch rims, sorryIf the dates are 7/68-10/68 I would be interested 5.5" rim....
1/17/70Strange I took a look at my rims and with the stem at 12:00 it has> T 10 1 ** STEM** 17 6.0
