What year for electronic ignition, super bee

My 69 Superbee had electronic ignition. It also had the rare factory option 6al MSD box. I'll bet Mr. Norm modified before I got it in 88...

jk... I think electronic ignition started in 71

Looks like '72 was the first year for Electronic Ignition

Note of interest, the factory literature above mentions for "440 4bbl & 6bbl engines".

“across the board”, in ‘72? First available in ’72, standard on most HP engine applications, optional on other engine offerings in ‘72. 1973 was the first year for all engines having electronic ignition as standard equipment.

I remember when they first came out. they were tested and the distributors built at the indy electrical plant. I worked there for a short period of time and had several friends who worked there. the slant sixes and the small blocks were the first to get them. I had a set for a big block pre-production and if I remember correctly that was '72 or '73. we didn't understand the benefits of the electronic ignition at the time and the early boxes had rev limiters that impaired modified engines. I ended up using a "blue" box that I thought was a nascar box (???). slept a lot since then.
