Doughnuts between pipe and collector

I'm tackling my exhaust manifold gaskets. The pipes to collector had only gaskets; called a few fellow Mopar friends, and an exhaust shop, and get different advice.

The exhaust shop said I should have doughnuts, but my Mopar friends are split on what I need.

If I need the doughnuts, can you recommend a source/type/size?

Any advice is appreciated.

(I have a hankering to go to KrispyKreme now)
 
Here ya go, you won't need these on your engine, just gaskets, or none at all if there's a casted taypered flange. Donuts are a Ferd or Cheby thing!

Both my 68 and 67 take flat gaskets. My Chevy takes donuts.

If you manifolds don't have bevels then no donuts. Exhaust pipes would need a pressed flange too.

Post a picture of what you have and we'll tell you what you need.

Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you. No pressed flanges. Why didn't the exhaust shop just say that?
 
Fellow Mopar guys came over while I was wrenching yesterday. One of them recommended copper RTV on the collector gaskets. Never used the stuff before. Any opinions?
 
If you use gaskets and surfaces are okay you don't need anything. I'm not a big fan of RTVs on exhaust parts with gaskets. Seems they always burn out the RTV even if it's high temp copper. I'm in the habit of dry gaskets with the right torque. Seems to be working okay.

Now if you did not use a gasket then I might use a skim coat on the flanges.
