1969 GTX Survivor

I have to agree by a strict definition of "survivor", it is not. Perhaps I should say a numbers matching, stock appearing, 48 year/2nd owner. When I take the X to a car show or cruise-in, I post a placard with the above information so I'm not pretending it is un-restored.
There is no "strict" definition it either is or it is not.....

That aside...It is a very beautiful GTX and a fine example of one of the few left with all original metal and matching drivetrain....To me that is the most important thing with any muscle car. Has it been chopped with 50% of metal replaced with crappy steel while losing all the original factory stampings, welds etc...

Maybe some day I will see your X in person because it is a beauty....Nothing better than an X and one with zero metal replaced....Very few people can say they have a car with all original steel...

I especially like the color.
Congratulations for keeping the car alive.
Somewhere in America.
"Salute".

Very Nice car! I personally associate the term survivor as an unrestored original paint Car.

Welcome from mid Michigan. Man that sure reminds of the GTX my dad had when I was a kid.

Welcome! The car looks familiar. When living in Mpls did you ever wander down to Hastings for cruise night in the old downtown?

I purchased my GTX in Charleston, Illinois when it was 8 months old on October 15, 1969. I dated my ex-wife in this car. After our marriage in 1970, it was our only vehicle for the first 3 years of our marriage. We continued to drive it as our second vehicle until 1980. My ex-wife didn’t particularly like the car and tried repeatedly to have me sell it. In 1983 the entire vehicle was stripped to bare metal, body work performed and repainted the original “bronze fire metallic” (T5). The car was then stored until 1998 when it moved with our family from central Illinois to the Minneapolis suburbs. Then it was stored for 5 more years. After fixing some brakes and fuel issues, I participated in several local car shows in the fall of 2004 to the spring of 2007. Then in January 2008, the car (but not the ex-wife) moved with me to Dallas, TX.

This GTX survivor is all numbers matching, 440-4V, 4-speed, Dana 3.54. The first 35,000 miles (before marriage, Army, kids, etc.) were the hardest having devoured several pairs of rear tires! After owning it for 48 years and 72,000 original miles, in the spring of 2017 we completely overhauled the tired engine restoring it to stock plus specs. So I still have the car but not the ex-wife. I have remarried and my new wife shares my appreciation for the car and we take it to fun car shows and cruise-ins. We are starting the 49th year of ownership with enthusiasm!
