Found a 1972 440 Thermoquad engine and trans for 500.00 on craigslist. Bad thing is, it's still in its home. Good thing is it is most likely low mileage. Here is the link if anyone is interested.

I didn't know where else to put this. Would it be possible to make a parent fourm for craigslist finds. So as to not muck up the for sale forum?

CL ads (if not yours) go into the General Discussion forum.....

Ahhh Well there ya go Sorry for the misplacement of the craigslist find.

Damn, there's me a T-Quad. I remember this ad. Would be worth the 500. Too bad it's too far. I could get the quad and sell the engine trans back to someone. They can be built good.

Nobody should want to buy this! I almost learned the hard way about buying motorhome engines that are in the motorhome but I dodged a bullet.

First, the trans won't work on a car because of the tailshaft. You'll need the longer car tailshaft and that usually costs as much as a whole transmission.

Second, once you get it out, you need to get rid of the rest of the carcass, and that's not easy. I was looking at a motorhome a couple of years ago and called every junkyard and scrapper around and they either wouldn't take it or would charge me $800-$1,500 to take it! They take up a lot of space, generate a lot of trash, and yield minimal salvageable materials, so they don't want them. This is why there are so many old motorhomes wasting away all over Florida.

I see your point but I bought a 440 ot of a 78 Dodge motor home with 80K miles and put it in my old trailduster. (It already had a 413 but spun the bearings)

It worked great with lots of pulling power.

Not true in all cases. I have a 1973 440 out of a winnebago that has a normal 727 tailshaft and is also a forged crank with 6 pack rods. 20000 miles and I paid 100 bucks. The cylinders look like it was never ran. Thankfully it was already pulled and the carcass was somebody elses problem.

Yeah... the carcass is the elephant in the room in these matters. :( I almost bought an engine that I was going to have to pay $500 for the engine/trans and $500 for the guy to pull it, but even that was cheaper than trying to get a salvage yard to get rid of the bones.

Well there really isnt much to the bodies on these things. Nothing a sawzall and 20 blades cant hack up. Then just load up the panels onto a trailer and take it to the dump. Hell you also get an Onan generator.. That may be worth a few bucks. Probably a DANA rear end too?

General Mayham RoadKill had a motor home 440 in it.
