reassembled my 73 charger and have a over charging problem. It’s around 15v. I have a 1.08v drop at the blue feed at the outside bulkhead. And .8 on the inside of the bulkhead. .16v at the red on harness side and .18v at column side. .47v at the blue column side and .49 on the harness side. Not sure what I need to do to correct the problem. Any help would be appreciated

Check ur grounds first, then contacts in bulkhead conn.

It is freshly assembled after a summer of resto. All grounds have been cleaned and checked. There’s a .2v difference between the measurements on either side of the feed wire at the bulkhead.

Ok, is battery low on charge? Cold garage? It could be normal for cold startup. Just throwing out ideas, old points type regulator?

I meant old style regulator or newer type. It is fairly cold out in our area & 15v for 1/2 hr. or so wouldn’t be totally abnormal. What alternator & v.regulator might help.

It’s a napa battery and regulator. It’s the 1v drop at the feed causing it to over charge by a volt. I’m just not sure how to fix whatever is causing it

my 72 dart had 16 volts output and would finally boil the acid out of the battery, finally figured it out that the regulator has to see battery voltage not voltage through a high resistance connector. when it see low voltage it tells alternator to go wide open, ended up bypassing bulkhead connection and sodering all connectors that had to do with the charging system and voltage went to 14. bulkhead plugs are notorious for bad connections.

My '66 Belvedere had high voltage, 16+ all the time. I checked everything and it all checked out. I pulled the voltage regulator and adjusted it old school by bending a couple tabs under the cap per the service repair manual--that reduced my voltage to 15 volts.

I scrubbed the bulkhead contacts with a wire brush, and sprayed with contact cleaner. Then used dielectric grease to keep moisture out. Then use a star washer, and clean paint off grounding surfaces. Also, i ran a ground wire from the regulator to the engine.
