I sold a project, 1973 Challenger, to a buyer that lived in Poland. The previous owner changed the dash and guages to a Rally and the original pad was long gone. Well the vin number is fastened to the dash pad and it wasn't from that car. I stated this in my add and to the buyer several times. Just to help out, I used black electrical tape and neatly placed it over the vin plate, hoping that it would make anyone looking for it to look elsewhere and there are other locations. Well that didn't work for the custom agents when he tried to get it into a container for shipment. We kept in touch and I believe it was about four months before he got it released. He sent me a picture of it sitting in his driveway.

Messing with vins will get you in trouble sooner or later.

If you can find this car,I'll give you the tag !!!:D

I am now in possession of this tag and Don at the 1970 Charger Registry has the VIN and fender tag information.

I am torn as to whether or not I should post the full VIN. Let me know what you think.

Also, I can post a better picture.

If you only want the car owner to have it he would have to send a picture car and VIN. Maybe a current registration .

If you only want the car owner to have it he would have to send a picture car and VIN.

My main concern was someone duplicating the fender tag and then fabricating a dash VIN plate to match so that they can fraudulently represent a different car.

Anyway, if the current owner steps forward with lots of evidence that satisfies both me and Don, then the tag is available.

This thread is a sad commentary on something that is fundamentally a hobby for the fun of it.

If I found a -tag- of potential interest to the original or present owner- I can now see the crazy maze to go through it takes to help out a fellow hobbyist.

I see a tag like this as having -two values- for -two sectors- of old car collecting.--- One of them is all about money.---How to fool the next guy for a profit. EEK

Hey DeltaV---stick to your ethics.:drinks:
