Has anyone tried polishing out a light windshield scratch using a kit like this sold at Eastwood?

Jerry

Hey '74, if the scratch is deep enough for you to catch your fingernail on as you drag it across it polishing may not be an option. If the scratch is deep and in your line of sight it may show distortion in the area you polish as well. Takes alot of patience from my experience. Good luck, cannot remember the brand of the polish/pad I used.

Ok so stupid question...is there anyway to fix scratches on a windshield without polishing or replacing da glass????:edgy:

Jerry, I polished out a scratch on a 64' Chrysler 300 I had years ago.. Like 66 B Body said. It did remove the scratch but because it was deep enough to catch my fingernail on it did leave some distortion. If your cars a driver, I'd say no biggie! But if it's a show car I'd replace it!!

The scratch is not deep enough to catch my fingernail. As a matter of fact, it doesn't even catch a razor blade like those used to remove window stickers. It's more like a hazy streak caused most likely by a worn out wiper blade.

Well 74, you should be ok, but anything in the line of sight can cause you trouble if the polishing is extensive. If you can, have a glass guy look at it for you, if he gives you the thumbs up, buy the kit!

Too late. No local glass guys around to ask - none do glass repair like scratches. I ordered a glass polishing kit from Sears and will let everyone know how it goes. I have a spare windshield to practice on to get the technique down.

I polished all my side glass and back glass on my Roadrunner and did a back glass on my 82 Vette that was scratched from a previous window louver. All came out great but all took forever. It's a slow process. Yes used Eastwood's kit.

I used a kit from gt glass, got the extra coarse disks too for deep scratches, may distort if deep but works well, a lot of work. time you pay for it and do all the work, just buy a new piece of glass if you can

Take your time, heat is your worst enemy.. You never know if a light scratch will polish out or not.. Most shops don't do them because they would have to charge you 10,000 dollars, ALOT of time.....
buff and then let it cool for a long time. DO NOT squirt cold water on it..
Your WS has millions of tiny pits in it and each one is like a glass cutter has scored each spot just waiting to run.... trust me and good luck
