The Illusive Edelbrock Bog

Typical issues for AFBs, and the Eddys, since they are about the same. First is float settings, must be right! Second, yes, fuel pressure, should be 5-7 lbs.

Those cause the most complaints about those carbs.

I can't say much on the accell pumps, since I'm just into my first Eddys. Always AFBs before. Will say the pump bore needs to be good, and the pump have slight drag in the bore, to have a chance to work. Always soaked my new ones in gas.

The manual does say a specific pressure should not be exceeded, but I don't have a regulator on any of mine, and one even has a poorly plumbed electric pump with no return. On that one you can tell when it's got too much and it's easy to just give it a little gas to avoid an incident. No other maladies encountered.

Under the 1406's accel. squirter is a brass weight, and below it is a check ball. Make sure that steel ball is in place.
Recently I went through a 1405 for a friend. His small block had a stumble from too much fuel coming out of the squirter when throttle was opened.
I found that the check ball was missing from this carb. Found a replacement and installed it. No more stumble.
Just something to consider.
