I've installed a set of Hotchkis torsion bars. I don't have the motor in. Is it normal for the upper control arms to be sitting on the rebound bumper on both sides? The upper control arms are tubulars from firm feel. The shocks are not installed. Thanks for any info.

Should have added that part, I started out as Hotchkis suggested with the bolts about halfway. I've loosened them all the way up and gone the other way and tightened them as far as I dare. No change either way.

I was wondering if the engine not being in would cause this? Only thing I can come up with.

Is the car sitting on its wheels or on stands?

It's sitting on it's wheels. I made the adjustments with it on jack.

If the arms were drooped down when you put the bars in you will end up with the old gasser look. AKA nose high or looking like a 4X. The arms need to be, say within an inch or so of the snubber on the lower to the frame, when you slide the bars in. From there give the bolt its preliminary setting and make sure the 15/16" nut on the lower shaft is not tight when you get the car back on the ground otherwise you will tear the lower bushing if its rubber.

First thing first I would not go any farther with out getting the drive train installed. You will be chasing your tail on adjusting. You need to start with the full weight if the vehicle and drive train on the ground or supported under the control arms with jack stands to load the suspension. From that point I would start with your preliminary height adjustments. With no weigh in the front you will definitely be making contact with the bump stops.

Thanks
James

Plus what he said.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm still getting the engine ready and the car is in the paint shop now so it will be a few weeks. when it's back I'll get the drive train in and go from there.

I got a set of Hotchkis TB for my 69 RR 1 year ago. Installed them and had a gasser look, or a low rider look. I called Hotchkis and they said sorry....some of the last TB went out with the right and left labels crossed. That cost me hours of cussing and jerking around.

Haven't gotten back to this yet, but the engine is in now so guess I need to find out what's up. Really hope it isn't swapped labels. That had to be a royal pain.
