my 64 has a 727 pushbutton, currently a poly 318. I have a rebuilt 440 I'm considering swapping in IF the poly isn't in good condition when i get around to trying to fire it up(having to rewire the car first). Been trying to locate a 64 727 pushbutton big block transmission to no avail. Is it possible to convert a later 727 to a pushbutton using the internal components such as the valve body etc to be able to retain my pushbuttons? I was given a big block 727 when i got the car, previous owner said it was a pushbutton but when I got to looking and running the numbers, its from a 68. I realize that the driveshafts will be different

They are completely different cases. The cables have to go in the side of the case instead of hooking to levers on the side of it. There may be some different fluid passages inside as well. The 64 also has a rear pump which later ones don't have. If you can find a cable trans case that you can put your guts into that would be the best bet.

would a 65 Pushbutton trans work with the 64 set up other than the driveshaft difference??

Yes 65 works. I have BB 65 cores. Or I can build you one.

pm me some info please. I'd like to build my own as a learning process but would be open to a rebuilt one depending on how much of course. I've done a 71 727 before for my charger when i had it.

Yes it will! Is it a floor shift or a column? the cable ends are different! You can switch the valve bodies with no problems! Also use the 65 convertor! Or change out the front pumps to use newer conv.

my 64 is a pushbutton on the dash so niether

I have a Big Block transmission from a 65 Chrysler that should work for you. It has the ball & trunion tail shaft and I believe it was column shifted. Should work with Push button cable. Still has the shift cable installed and some of the kick down linkage. I'm not sure of the condition as when I removed it, I only wanted the 383 for my 65 Fury. PM me for pictures if interested.

does anyone know if the small block pushbutton cables are the same length as the big block push button cables?

I don't think the '65 valve body will work with push buttons. pretty sure you can put a '64 valve body in a '65 trans and use push buttons.

I run a 65 valve body in my 64. Here are the 2 different types.

Valve bodies are different between 65 and 64. Think more than just the cable fitting.
All bigblock dash mounted cables are longer than 318 cables, typically by 4 inches.
65 slip yoke trans need to have a air vent hole drilled at end of the yoke flange. This is how the 65 yokes are.

I have run a 65 valve body's with my 62, 63, and 64 push button shifters. I've never drilled any of my yokes. Been running 65 transmissions in my race cars since 1992. Never an issue,

Question: Anyone know where I can get replacement/reproduction push button shifter cables for a 727 pb?
