hood 5 inch.jpg
My new GlassTech Hemi Style Scoop and lite weight hood for my 66 Coronet.

The Scoop is 5" tall in the front and 3 1/2" tall in the rear.
Clears my INDY single plane with 1" spacer and 1050 Dominator with about 3" between top of carb air horn and the bottom of the scoop.
The Scoop is a Bolt-On Style.
The Hood is the lightweight "pin-on" model that I fabbed the rear hinge mounts so I could have it as a hinged model. Like Malex did, I made the rear hinge mounts out of 1 1/4 X 1 1/4 Oak about 7" long, drilled 2 holes for the mounting bolts and fiber glassed them to the bottom rear corners of the hood to line up with the hinge mechanism.
I used 4 hood pins up front.
I had the Harwood Snorkel Style Scoop on my heavy Fiber Glass hood but the AFX Nostalgia Organization that I race with wanted period correct hood scoops.
I have my old Fiberglass (hinged model) for sale ($200) and also the Harwood Snorkel style scoop ($150) for sale.
Shown in picture.

I have been think about the 5" tall Six Pack scoop myself for my 70' Challenger if my custom drop base & enlarged Shaker scoop to adapt to my dual Dominator carbs idea doesn't not work or look right.

That looks great...just don't let any small children or animals near the front of your car.

I would get decal made like this with something like "Mopar Intake" as a joke.

Fantastic job Mr. Gaines! Huge improvement! Did you shed any weight with the change?

About 25lbs less. Although my previous hood was fiberglass is was a "bolt-in" style with duplicate of factory bracing on the inside of the hood (out of fiberglass, of course) but all that stuff made it 25lbs heavier that my new Glass Tech Pin-out style hood (which in converted to hinge style). Although the GlassTech hood is very light, it is made of really tough fiberglass and when I bolted on the hemi style scoop it really stiffened it up. My new Hemi style scoop is the same weight as the Harwood Snorkel style scoop I had on the old hood.
I used Malex's idea of fabricating the hinge brackets out of 7" long 1 1/4 X 1 1/4 Oak strips, drilled 2 holes in it to line up with my hood hinge and fiberglassed an Oak bracket to each rear corner of the hood to line up with the bolt holes on the hinge itself.

Wow...I was not expecting it to be that much lighter. That's awesome. Not only does it look better, the weight savings is significant.

Great stuff.

Very nice looking scoop Mike. Did you run that aero scoop before when running NSS ? As I did not think they let you use an aero scoop in NSS ? Ron

Our group out here is called AFX / Nostalgia West, not NSS. They allowed non period correct hood scoops last year but put their foot down for this year PERIOD CORRECT scoops only

Ah that makes sense. I know some NSS groups around here the Md area where I live sometimes will let guys run the wrong scoop or whatever their first time running with the club but usually tell them they need to have the correct period scoop or parts next time the race with them. Thanks , Ron
