for a '67 Coronet R/T, how should these appear? I can't seem to find reliable pics online. I'm trying to repaint them. Is it supposed to be flat or gloss black? Is it correct to be solid black on both the raised and recessed areas of the "boxes"? And what about the script Coronet? Should there be black in the recess? Anything else incorrect about the colors already on this plate?

the black filler paint is more on the 'satin' to 'semigloss' sheen. solid on all areas. dont recall the coronet being filled black.

I believe the coronet was red. I have two references. One is an over restored RT and one is a 61K original where you can see remnants of red in the coronet.

For the correct sheen on the black parts:

SEM FLAT BLACK VINYL paint matches perfect with some VHT hi temp satin clear over it.

Thank you for the reply. I had given up on anyone having any info and went ahead and painted one of them. I can always redo it. Really didn't take long. I used testors gloss black, however, and made the Coronet black. It looks pretty good, although the gloss is wrong. I used a couple of different brushes and had Qtips on hand to wipe away the mishaps.

Hey all. Thought I would add this because it is interesting. My 'Coronet R/T is a Canadian model. I assume this is why it is different. The above picture of the door panel shows a chrome trim towards the top. My car has carpet below that trim and painted black metal above it. The emblem is screwed onto the black metal. And the Coronet is not painted. You think this is a different trim code or a Canadian model thing?

I dont know if the coronet was ever painted but the 61k mile survivor that ed has had them painted red.....very faded almost gone.....need someone with more knowledge. My 67 rt is a project but even they are bare

Interesting. I'm surprised this isn't documented knowledge somewhere. I do kind of like mine the way I have painted them, though. Seems to make sense that the Coronet is black as if the black surrounding goes under the chrome center square.

More info. Finally found an accurate site to check my fender tag. The code states that the upper doors are painted black. I guess a different code would show the upper doors in carpet. Odd because the code also shows my car with premium trim.

The picture you have is an original. No paint in CORONET, US or Canada.
