69 RR engine removal

If you are going to take the engine and trans out together from the top, a tilter will be required like the one pictured in post #6...

If you want to leave trans(auto?) in car you need to have a jack or something to hold up frt. of trans(rear mount can’t do it by itself). Hood off, radiator out and one more idea IF frt end is facing garage door is just call a tow truck to yank the motor, save money buying a hoist.

I used Plastic coated cable and 2 cable clamps to hold trans up. Think I used torsion bars or frame rail, I forget it's been awhile.

If you want to leave the transmission in place, it goes out the top. If you are looking to really detail the car, drop the power pack with the suspension in one. Both are relatively easy even for newbies, but get a manual to pull from the top, and research to drop out the bottom.

last time I pulled a motor, it was a 302 from my 69 mustang. That was when I was in high school. We won't talk about how long ago that was. I was young and dumb then. Smarter and more cautious now. I will try to track down someone with more experience that I can bribe with beer, pizza, and strippers (if necessary!). I am pretty sure I can pull it off on my own, but the stakes are higher with this car than they were with my old mustang!

Don't know if trans type has been mentioned. But, here's what I always do. Standard trans, drop it on the floor, leave the bell housing on the engine, and pull them together out the top.
Automatic, leave it on the engine. It's a pain to unbolt/bolt trans to block, besides the stabbing that has to be done, to get it into place. With both engine/trans, I clear off all the front acc, and pull the radiator, for clearance. Even like that, it takes a pretty good angle to pull it out of the 'hole'. Once over the core support, depending on what type sling your using, might take a third hand, to pick up the trans end, up and over.
